Why I care about the #1 seed, and an exhortation

While it's clear that the easiest path to the Super Bowl is by securing the bye and home field, MM's road record makes me less nervous about the wildcard path than I typically would be.

My real desire for the #1 seed is almost entirely selfish. I have been to a ton of Seahawks games over the last 13 years. I witnessed our world record setting noise levels in 2013. The epic battles with the Niners are forever etched in my memory.

But there is nothing that compares to the two NFC Championship Games that we hosted. I've never been to a Super Bowl, but I imagine they don't compare to attending a home conference championship for one's team. The entire town was on fire for the Hawks. Everyone in the stadium was a fan of one of the teams or the other. These games were two of the top moments of my life.

The Tip, and Kearse's walk off TD in OT happened right there in front of me. I remember yelling for Smith to go down in the end zone. I remember reaching into a pile of Hawks players to pull up a photographer that fell down in the immediate post win scrum vs the Packers.

The energy was completely off the charts.

My exhortation - should we host another NFC Championship Game, do everything you can to attend in person. It will be worth every dollar you spend.

Yep. The difference between the 1 and the 6 is MASSIVE.

I went to 49. While it was a great game (with a crap ending) the atmosphere at the SB isn't even remotely close to an NFC Championship game at home.

All that stuff happened in my end zone too. I remember not only losing my mind but yelling the same thing "Get down Malcolm!!"
Other than SB 48, the NFC Championship that year was the greatest game in Seahawks history, imo. Without a DOUBT the two best teams played that day. And make no mistake about it, the Niners would have also destroyed the Broncos in 48. I have zero doubt about that.

Broncs couldn't handle a hard-hitting team like the Hawks or Niners. Look what the Broncs did after we destroyed them.........the added to their defense, big time.
