Why are we so awful in the 1st half?

My guess is Pete has drilled it into the offense not to make a mistake so they play nervous.

It's long been an MO of Pete Carroll teams. If there was a quick fix he would have found it out a long time ago.

This oline plays all over the place. Sometimes they look like a regular Oline and other times they look like they have never played the position. One thing I did notice is they did not call any play action passes where they have the oline attempt cut blocks, because that never works and Wilson gets hit by 4 guys every time they attempt it.

Specifically, why is the offense so awful in the first half (defense and special teams are fine)? I think it's a mixture of Russ taking some time to find his game, the offensive line getting mildly better throughout the game, and overly conservative play calling early on (eg. trying to continuously run the ball when run game isn't clicking).

Horrible game planning all week by our OC. His pre scripted 15 plays are typically all bad.

Those plays got us into FG range.

If it's Bevell, how do you explain the second half?

No. It's obvious what's happening. In the first half, Wilson stands back there like a deer in the headlights looking for the big safe play and ignoring closer targets. In the second half, it's all predetermined throws, quick hits, slants, bubbles, and PROGRESS. It's clear that two different playbooks are being called, and given who decides the philosophy on this team, it's pretty clear who's really responsible for the conservative starts on offense.

Those plays also netted 3 points, a safety (poor starting field position to blame) and 9:00 TOP in the first half

You're really reaching hard to blame Bevell so that you can secure the idea of this team having only one main problem.

We're like a defensive boxer, like Floyd Mayweather. We feel you out first then pull out a win in the end

Ok, I answered the OP as to why we start slowly in the first half.

What's your answer?

Just once I would love to see us just light up the scoreboard the first few possessions instead of wearing out Ryan's leg in the first half.

The purpose of the first 15 scripted plays has been explained every year. Coaches have also spoken of probing for opponent responses in the early part of a game to generate play selection for a strong finish and victory. That information and much more resides in Seahawk interview and press conference archives. It's all in there.

I've heard this for a long time and the rationale for its purpose, but do other successful offenses wait until later in the 2nd half to make such adjustments? Genuinely asking-don't other teams abandon a script early if it's obvious how to counter the defense? Is there not sufficient info from say the first 7 plays to give you a general idea what your opponent is doing? Whatever happened to trying to win each quarter?

Rather than repeating myself each week about our conservative philosophy, just think back to 2010/2011 when we had the Leon Washington "draw play special" occurring every 3rd and 12+. Remember all the discussion around it? We were lowering our chance of sustaining the drive in order to secure a better punt which starts off as a bad statistical decision assuming league average offense/defenses but can become a good decision if your defense is good enough.

Pete trusting his defense (warranted or not) is the core concept that explains half of what people complain about around here.
