Here's my take on the whole York/Baalke thing:
Jed York as you all know is the nephew of Eddie Debartolo and grew up with the team during the dynasty years. His personality seems to be a lot closer to Uncle Eddie than either of his parents, but still not exactly a clone.
Eddie D was a passionate owner, almost a little too passionate. He was roughly the same age as Jed was when he took over the team, and had the luxury of no salary cap, no free agency to break up the team (along with the good fortune of Bill Walsh, Joe Montana, Steve Young). In addition, he was a baller in his social and professional life and treated his players like royalty with the wide body planes, premier hotels, lavish offseason parties, etc.
He was a player's owner but at the same time he was really hard on coaches. You had Bill Walsh fired/unfired several times -- a top 3/4 all time head coach we're talking about here. George Seifert said he was never really forgiven for losing the '90 NFC Championship game and denying the fanbase the 3peat -- that is too great a goal for any head coach, and so far no team has accomplished that goal and probably never will. Then you have Steve Mariucci fired after leading the Niners to the playoffs.
I think overall what you have is an ownership mentality that is no longer applicable to the modern NFL. Debartolo was an enviable owner during the '80s and '90s, but I wonder if his personality would have created problems moving into this millenium. Better owner than his sister/brother in law, but maybe too intense still. If Jim Harbaugh could own an NFL team he would be very much like Eddie Debartolo.
So Jed York looks to be Eddie 2.0 and it's not as authentic nor ideal in the modern league which is way more competitive than when Eddie was around. This whole "super bowl or bust" talk is horse s**** that can only have adverse effects on the players and even fans. It's very much a carryover from the Eddie D days, and only creates problems in my mind. It's this kind of spoiled mentality that I know was a turnoff to league fans 25 years ago, and now it appears like it never left.
I do agree with some Hawk fans here that for the first time I think the head coaching vacancy in SF will be surrounded with some level of trepidation. Ultimately there will be a coach that takes this on (and can be a very good one) because at the end of the day, it's still a desirable job to have. Maybe there's ambiguity on whether it was Harbaugh that did himself in or if York/Baalke were unreasonable -- everyone will have to make their own call on that. It's not quite like the Jerry Jones/Jimmy Johnson divorce.......in that case, it was clear to everyone (and has been stated by Jimmy Johnson) that Jones wanted to be the real GM/get all the credit and Jimmy wasn't having that.
Some concern will be there for the next guy.
The Redskins job still seems the most toxic in the league given the Snyder aspect and potentially the RG3 QB situation. The 49ers do not have those problems.
As for Baalke, don't know what to think right now. Will have to wait awhile and reserve judgment.
