Gabe Jackson for sure, maybe Harris and Jefferson.

Diggs would be both a big recovery of cap dollars and dead cap. Makes sense if you need the dollars, but I doubt Pete is ready to give up the talent even if it’s overpriced.

Geno can’t be a cap casualty in the traditional sense given he’s a FA. The cap could be used as an excuse for not re-signing him.

My guess is Diggs. The teams decision deadline for guaranteeing his $13.5M salary is February 17th.

No way we release Diggs, not unless we draft a stud free safety Pete feels confident in being a day one starter.

Diggs had his best year in Seattle, is going to the Pro Bowl and is a definitive leader on this team.

But definitely Gabe Jackson, and probably Harris if they can't work out a small extension with some cap relief.

Further complicated by still being injured.

I don‘t care for Adams as a player or person, but still think he’s here for at least another season.

Yeah I wish we could figure out a way to do an injury settlement.

But I think that has to be medically deemed career threatening/ending for the league and player's association to even consider.

Adams would be an idiot to accept that, dude's gonna get his cash..........of course after suffering another season ending injury by game three. Maybe sooner!

Any chance Dissly comes into the conversation ?
6 dead vs 3 savings so doubtful. Plus he’s a Pete guy, locker room culture dude.

What about Fant? 6.8 on the 5th year option. Not sure what the rules are around trading or cutting.

Bryan Mone

OverTheCap’s breakdown has Mone’s cap hits over the next three seasons as follows: $1,745,000, $3,795,000, and $6,400,000. The way his contract is structured it’d be that 2024 season where if Seattle is in a cap crunch or Mone ends up not being in the team’s plans, they would save $5.9 million by cutting him either pre- or post-June 1st and only take on $500,000 in dead money.

Exactly, it took him all of 1 half of the first game to render himself useless

I see how Diggs comes in since he has a big cap savings, but he's also a playmaker. A name I'm not seeing is Shelby Harris. He's due over $12 million with over $3 million in dead money. He's a cap savings of over $8.9 million and he just didn't produce at that level. I do like him and would hate to see him go, but I can see why it would happen.

Mostly mentioned already, but I think Harris is the obvious one. I like the dude, and think he'd be a solid rotational player, but I don't think he's a $12M/yr player. I also think Gabe Jackson ($11M or so for '23; savings 0f $6.5M) and Q Jefferson ($6M; $4.5M savings) are at risk.

In regards to Adams, things could get interesting. I'm pretty sure a post 1-Jun designation spreads the bonus over the next 3-yrs, and saves $11M on the '23 cap (and $16.5M in '24 and $17.5M in '25.) All said, I think I'd prefer they swallow the bonus, cut him, and see what the $45M in recaptured cap brings.

The key thing is, what free agent does Carroll want so bad that he’s willing to shed contracts?

Who? Would Seattle even make a play at any free agents and throw the Brinks truck at them? Who do they like that much to do so?

They may not even like anyone for all we know. Maybe Seattle has learned and doesn’t want to repeat the strategy of “buying” players?

They essentially bought, Adams, and traded a farm for him. They bought Diggs, just last year. I see no reason for Carroll to want to drop either player. He just isn’t that type unless they are locker room cancers.

Carroll wants to redeem himself for giving these guys a lot of money so he wants an opportunity to coach them again. He isn’t going to trade or release them. It would pretty much confirm he made a mistake with them. And he isn’t about to admit his faults.

Who would Seattle pursue that warrants Seattle paying for them? Only name I can think of is Daron Payne. Payne will also command BIG money.

Then you would have money paid to:

Geno (assuming)
DK
Diggs
Adams
Lockett
Nwosu

Seattle would need shed a number of players to fit into the lottery of signing a guy like Payne.
