you have seen Coach Carroll talk about O-lineman and other D-lineman for putting on muscle mass, sliming up, and different ways they plan on using 2nd year players but nothing on Jaye Howard i was hoping to hear his name praised for a good off-season but nothing. I'am not too worried about the DT position becuase there is depth but i had high hopes for Howard.

I share similar hopes for Howard, who had a strong collegiate career. I expected last season to be limited with respect to playing time considering the transition from college to the NFL, but I was hoping to here positive remarks or a bit of commentary on him through this off season.

Just the other day one of the writers (can't recall which one) who was at the minicamp practices mentioned Howard by name as looking really good as an interior pass rusher and getting a lot of pressures on the QB's.

Honestly, he's been non-existent since we drafted him. Looking "good" without pads in mini-camp is...well...big deal.

Hopefully, Quinn can push his buttons.

It's difficult to judge interior lineman in just shorts. TC will determine what the Hawks have in Howard, Hill, Williams, Brooks and McDaniel. But what's to worry about. The pile is huge.

What's Brady gonna do, but pad his stats by standing like a statue?

I saw that as well. He's an elite athlete at DT and was banged up early on last year. He should make a push for PT with his athleticism and hopefully we'll see more of this and hopefully he'll help make up for the loss of Scruggs on 3rd down nickel.

Howard's issue is run defense. If he's made improvements, we wouldn't know it from padless practices.

If the word is that Williams is competing with McDaniels for Branchs spot I think that's all we need to know really. I would imagine with Quinn being here he would get every chance to start and i have yet to hear anything like that. This dang FO.:)

Lol..

In all fairness, it's a pretty non-inflammatory and grounded question ("what's up with Jaye Howard?") vice the .Net stomp kind of thread ("Jaye Howard SUCKS!).

And since we never hear ANYTHING about him, I think it's fair play.

I expect the fact that we haven't heard anything about him, and the fact that he was inactive most of the season despite being fully healthy -- should be the easiest 'read between the lines' exercise imaginable.

We lost 3 DL and will be missing up to 2 more to start the season. We added 5 in the offseason. I'm guessing a couple of the guys on last years roster will not be here to account for the glut in numbers once Clemons and Irvin are back.

You've also never met a thread you couldn't find something negative about, either...

I expect him to be cut. He had lots of promise, but no production. I just don't see the kind of passion to play the game that it takes with this guy. For some reason Lawrence Jackson comes to mind when I think of Jaye Howard, another d-lineman with measurables minus the motivation. He will probably be on someone else's roster come September.

This is a guy who when the team was down to the bare bones at DT, wasn't even active last season.

I think he'll do well to make the final roster.
