If I'm Maxwell I'm out there busting my ass trying to make plays right now, those last few spots for DB's are looking real tight. We got a guy like Simon out there as well, and dude looks to be a guy the FO and Staff are pretty high on as they protected themselves to get him along with Jesse Williams in the draft. It's going to be fun to watch these guys go out there in preseason and ball out for a spot.

I love Browner's attitude and the thump he adds to the defense, but I'd much rather have Thurmond in coverage against teams like the Falcons or Saints (or even the Rams now that they have Tavon Austin.)

Lane had significant time--as a corner--in four games. Thurmond has played a lot in 15 or so, including several starts.

I think I have a much better idea of what Thurmond could be as a player.

Funny that you'd say that... because I honestly felt the Seahawks would have won against the Falcons if they just had one, "just one" of Clemons, Jones, or Thurmond on the field that day.

Julio Jones embarrassed Browner but if Thurmond had been available, in my opinion, Jones' damage on us would have only been half as bad... and I don't think Thurmond allows that big reception in the end.

If he can just be healthy he would be the perfect replacement for Winfield next year after he gets his ring and retires. If I am in Seattle's secondary I would soak up any and all knowledge and tricks Winfield has. Having him even for 1 year is going to be invaluable to the LOB for the rest of their careers.

Perhaps...

Milloy : Chancellor, as
Winfield : Thurmond, as
Browner : Simon

Even if not exact analogies, I love the way we're setting up younger guys with veterans to learn from and compete with.

Regardless of how well Thurmond plays in camp and pre-season, I think you have to start with Winfield in the slot, right? He just has too much potential to make dynamic plays all over the field as we've all seen in his highlight videos. Nevertheless, Winfield comes with his own injury concerns, so having Thurmond ready and available will be a huge relief. I do think he has the potential to be a great CB.

Since Winfield's so good at run support, can we go base dime? :) Let's get our best players on the field.

Or maybe Winfield can be an incredible cover linebacker. ;)

Someone probably will be mad about what I write below but I don't believe in bad luck nor jinxing etc so here we go

What do you guys think happens if Thurmond has an injury this preseason / training camp. Something that would sideline him for 6-10 games? At what point does the team say - fantastic talent just can't stay healthy....

obviously we all hope that he has a probowl season just curious in some thoughts

Well, I think it would be obvious the team would I.R. and move on from him. He is a free agent after this season. There is a reason why they have drafted a CB every single year since 2010.

Thurmond - Sherman - Maxwell - Lane - Simon

There is a reason why the Seahawks also have churned so much talent over the roster especially at CB. Off the top of my head:

Kelly Jennings - Josh Wilson - Kennard Cox - Roy Lewis - and various others who were late round draft pick casted off other teams as well as undrafted free agents.

This season we saw the Seahawks let Trufant walk after 9 seasons, sign a 36 year old vet, as well as another CB who is really more of a Special Teamer (Will Blackmon) and draft another.

Thurmond knows he's on the thinnest of strings, he also knows this year will be the most important in his career and one that would ultimately decide his future in the NFL. Its his job, his duty to do everything in his power to stay on the right side of healthy, if he truly wants it. I mean unfortunately there are circumstances that are out of his power but he has the power to built his body tougher and survive what comes at him.

And if he does survive... Seahawks easily have the best Cornerback grouping in the NFL... if they didn't have it already.

Giving up 59 yards to one of the best receivers is hardly embarrassing especially when a good 20 of them were on Sherm. Our inability to stop the run was the real reason we lost.

Yeah, not sure what PH is talking about there. Browner was lights out in the Falcons game, and that was with a completely non-existent pass-rush . Neither of the big receptions at the end of that game were on Browner nor were either caught by Jones.

Thurmond has 1st-Round talent. He just can never stay on the field long enough to show it off. If he can stay healthy, our secondary is going to be DEEP.

Correct. They gutted us like a fish, didn't Robinson have something like 160+ plus yards?

I don't know that I have ever seen a player get more cred for doing less.

I'm more impressed with what Lane did last year taking BB's place during his suspension. Thurmond has potential but he can't stay healthy.

They said that about Sidney also. Walt can still turn it around and I for one believe this is the year he puts it all together. If not no loss given we already have others to take his place if needed. I just think it won't be needed. :)

We have great luxury at the CB spot right now. We all hope WT3 can be a healthy player for us. It will be very interesting to see how all of this shakes out over the next 2 or 3 years.
Ya gotta love what our FO has accomplished.
