Thinking the same damn thing. Rivers is really good hitting short passes inside small exposed areas in our coverage. Hits us with these little dinks and dunks then sprinkle in a few runs. They seem to get first down after first down. He's a big dude and he sees the field well. I was at last year's game and I was livid that we couldn't stop them from advancing the ball! That plus freakin' Bevell couldn't counter, so our defense was kept on the field because our offense was spewing out three-and-out after three-and-out. Also, we are not a hot weather team it seems like. What is it about when the Seahawks come down here its always triple digits!

Food for thought, that greatest ever offense that Denver had in the super bowl was a dink and dunk offense as well. Manning isn't a QB who throws deep a lot. He doesn't even have that strong of an arm.
Yeah, those crossing routes don't work so well if the DBs and LBs are knocking guys out.

It is the heat and Rivers. Seems like last year we were without Kam and some other players.

Also Rivers made an enormous amount of 3rd and longs mostly to Antonio Gates.

A lot of it I think is the heat. Remember they practice in it, so this early in the preseason or even regular season I think they are more conditioned for the conditions. Some may also be because everyone treats our games as the Super Bowl, so I guess there is that as well. But living in Southern California right now it is damn hot.

Not any hotter than it's been up here. I haven't paid attention to the difference in Portland and Seattle for temperatures, but we've already broken a record for amount of days over 90 degrees. It's damn hot up here as well.

Oh, and count me in as those who wish they would go for it on 4th downs in the preseason. 4th and 1 from their 40...Go for it. Field goal or punting is a slap in the face in the preseason for fans that pay full price.

Nothing to lose.

Phillips River's first year doing the short yard, quick passing is what is making him looked deadly, last year was his first year utilizing it with a new offensive coordinator.

Is it a wonder when Wilson is in the 2 minute huddle and we know he is going to march down that field and make a TD, I saw what the offense could look like in the KC game when we get the ball out quick. I'm surprised we couldn't do it this game, looks like we went back into looking for the explosive plays again, and of course the bad day that Wilson had throwing the ball.

This is a good point, and I wonder if we will make that adjustment in the regular season. Short passes have the same effect that a good running game has, in that it gets the defense used to moving forward with their first couple of read steps. Then you hit them over the top when they're a couple of steps out of position.

I just hope that's the case: we were working on our "base" offense and trying the usual stuff, but if our OL still stucks, we get the ball out of Wilson's hands quicker. With Lockett and Baldwin, and throw in Matthews and Graham, we have guys that can either out muscle DB's or beat them off the line quickly. I just honestly hope the coaching staff can make that adjustment, coupled with a better run game and more respect for Lynch.

Donald is going to have a field day vs. this o-line. He is a beast and we have nobody in that group that matches up with any of their D-line.
One word for you, Foles. He's terrible so Donald or Quinn won't matter just like Watt and Houston never matter when it's money time.

From my observation from the last time we played them in the regular season and this years preseason they have the scheme to beat us. It's the dink and dunk game plan. Pass short yards and gain YAC. To me it seems like we're a great deep coverage defense, but we always get killed in the short pass game. Throwing to the flats, short slants, and curl routes seem to be our weakness. SD has the blueprint to beat us. Also in the Superbowl the Patriots saw the tape and was dinking and dunking on us too. This is my opinion. Thoughts?

Well if Lane didn't get injured and Avril concuussed we had Edelman and the dink and dunk handled just fine. Luckily we've decided to go with another angle and beef up our pass rush to lessen the pressure on our secondary to be ridiculously stellar every play.

They seem to have our number. Is it the heat? I can't explain why our 1's look like crap against their 1's down there.

Are they that hungry for Seahawks blood? They play us like it's the freakin' Super Bowl and we don't come even close to matching their intensity. Why is that?

Again, is it the heat? Last year it was a recorded 120 degrees on the field and 107 in the stands. Trust me, I was there in the stands that game and it was horrific. I can't even imagine trying to play football with pads and helmets on. But let's be fair, the Chargers had to play in the same heat. Yet, I seem to recall the Chargers made sure their players were plenty hydrated where our players were anything but. Now that's on us. We should have been fully hydrated for that game but we were embarrassingly not.

But I digress.

Once again our 1's looked like crap against their 1's for the first quarter and a half. It wasn't until the mid second quarter when our D woke up.

Lockett? Wow. This kid is special and it's obvious.

Give him some lanes and he's gone. He has a beautiful cut back, stops on a dime, and his top speed is just silly, just two shades of unfair.

Russ? Hmm. We all wish he would have looked better than he did. How much of that is not game planning, how much of that is protections and how much of that is just on him for not being as sharp as he should have been? I'm going with the combo platter myself.

Defense sharpened up before the half. Not sure why it took them 12:10 minutes into the second quarter to start acting like the Seahawks Defense but better late than never.

Because I was at the game last year, feeling like I was going to die from heat stroke in what I honestly believe is one of the crappiest stadiums in the NFL, and because the Chargers seem to act like Super Bowl Champions and we are the Chargers in some crazy parallel universe...I just want to see that team go down!

Hauschka's 60 yard field goal to win the game made me jump up and scream like no man should ever have to for a preseason game.

The cat jumped off the couch, the wife looked at me like I was insane, my daughter cringed and my dog jumped out of fear.

Worth. It.

The heat was a definite factor in the regular season game.. for Saturday's game it was in the upper 80's but that's nothing the team shouldn't be able to deal with. Like someone said before, it's been that warm most of the summer in Seattle.

The Chargers are just really good at the short passing game and attacking zone coverage with it.

Our defense is predicated on press covering with Earl playing center field, which allows the SS and LB's to clog the middle of of the field and stop the run/blow up shallow crosses.

So take Earl, Kam out, and add a weak link 2nd DB/nickel DB into the equation..............and voila, you've got what's happened in the preseason, QB's dinking and dunking all over us.

I'm not worried about the defense, I'm worried about the offense. It's not even close, this this Russell's worst preseason so far. Just hasn't looked sharp.

Russell Wilson was adamant about covering his ass with compen$ation, either by Lloyds Of London, or Guaranteed money.
THIS O-Line didn't really provide as a Run Thumpers, let alone giving any real protection to the Quarterback.
R.W. never got a chance to get into any kind of rhythm....Defenses all over the League will do whatever they can to disrupt the timing, so it's going to have to be Lynch to get on track during the regular season, and take the Defenses apart.
And besides that, the Seahawks aren't going to go full bore with any kind of eye popping schemes in pre-season games... Order up whatever you want, but you're still gong to get Vanilla.
I'm glad Pete and the gang are using these pre-season games to sort through, and grade the long list of players to be added to the team.

If Russ had a talented OL where he could hike the ball, drop back, set his feet with confidence, go through his progressions and make the throw I wouldn't even recognize him.

All I've ever known is Russell Wilson under duress from the moment of the snap from day one.

Thank God he's as gifted as he is or there's no chance we are in back-to-back Super Bowls.
