What about our LB corps?

I remember Kearly posting pretty much this exact thing before the season started.

I do wonder if the improvement on the D-line has had an inadvertent negative effect though. Our LB's are being asked to play a little different than last year because the line is so much more dominant. Maybe the stats aren't there because the line is doing it's job and maybe the LB's are still adjusting to that and learning how to be more diverse or better in coverage while not weakening the line. Another poster pointed out that opponents will likely see the LB area as the safest area to throw the ball also and with Sherman, Browner, Thomas and Kamtrack out there they are probably correct.

That's all I do. I just regurgatate old Kearly stuff from the pre-season to sound smart. I suppose every defense has their soft spot; guess it's just up to Quinn and Pete to protect it...

As you yourself say, most of BR is regurgitated National Media BS. So i don't pay attention to it. It's my own opinion and you're free to have your own.

If Keith is good, more power to him. Hope he starts his own site like Hawkblogger, FieldGulls or the now defunct Scouttheseahawks so he doesn't get dragged down by the utter BS that is BP.

I was just pointing out that you can't really paint everything on BR as garbage anymore. They've upped their game. There's a handfull of guys on there that are actually worth listening to, and the content is getting better. Keith's a good one, Scott Kacsmar's another, there's a few others that I can't remember right now. It's not entirely a cespool of homers spewing unsubstantiated nonsense, you just have to separate the wheat from the chaff. And Keith basically had his own blog for years already. He was the lead at 12th Man Rising (Fansided). Pretty much the exact same role Danny Kelly has at Field Gulls (SBNation). BR has always been a really good platform it's just had shitty content. If Turner can up the quality, it could be a pretty good site.

But don't paint me as a Bleacher Report fan boy or having a Keith Myers man crush or anything, but you're being a little... I don't want to say ignorant, because that sounds mean, but I can't think of a better word so... sorry.

Well this is spiralling out of control in a hurry. Clearly not my intention. I was just looking for some discussion on how Pete and Quinn might affect change in what has apparently been the one weak spot in an otherwise highly robust defense. I like the idea that the intent is to simply create controlled drag (if you will) and funnel opposing offenses to the middle of the field until they are simply worn out by the latter stages of the game and then we deliver the Coup de grâce.

-In the case of the Offensive Line it may be as simple as getting all hands healthy and playing together long enough to establish continuity. That should lead to better pass protection and possibly an enhanced running game.

-In the case of the Line-backing corps I don't know if its that easy. But the byproduct should hopefully be enhanced coverage in the run game and shutting off the dink and dunk that is the fodder of the Brady's and Mannings of the world. But I am no expert.

All depends on KJ Wright's health i think he's a important part of the D. Bruce Irvin is back also he's gonna light up the SAM spot and be our Clay Mathews type player.

Not that it's anything near scientific but I thought it was interesting PFF has Malcolm Smith as their highest rated 4-3 OLB in the NFL. Not a very high standard this year apparently but still an interesting note.

Malcolm had an off game last week. It kind of surprised me because usually he's pretty good in pass coverage.

We have good LB's. I think Smith is probably the weaker link in the set, but he did force a fumble. Our whole defense was flat in the first half of that game so I don't think its fair to single one player out. They balled out in the second half and in OT, so they just need to find an extra step on Sunday in the first half and we should be fine.

Whatever role they changed / made for him this year, I just want good football, no injuries, and wins. If they (coaches) make it so maybe some teams get points and yards in one way, sometimes, but gets absolutely nothing in another way, and we win because of it, then so be it. Go hawks

I mostly blame the coach for allowing us to continue playing zone when it was obvious to everyone that it was killing our defense. If we could see it, do you really think he didn't also? Smith was getting killed out there. I would bet good money that was discussed during halftime. The second half we looked much more normal and guess what? The bleeding stopped.

I hate it when they try to be cute and do something "special" because of the way one player plays. My opinion is to not mess with what works.

I'm wondering if Irvin's speed and upbringing as a safety made the staff think he could learn to be effective in coverage, rather than simply being an extra rusher.

I think that by week 8 we are going to be talking about how great this LBing group is. We are talking about KJ Wright as the senior LBer, they have hardly begun and doing a good job in their growth.

They don't get a lot of credit because the Legion AND the DLine are playing out of their minds.
