For those wondering

Cooper Kupp 24 receptions on 33 targets 73%

DK Metcalf 27 receptions on 43 targets 63%

CeeDee Lamb 28 receptions on 42 targets 67% (for all the CDL attention, Ferguson is their effective #1)

For comparison,
JSN is 50 receptions on 70 targets 71%.

Kupp is a bit like Lockett was, quietly, efficiently doing what is asked of him.

He’s 75th in the league for receptions, and 79th for targets. So, he’s right in the middle of the road for #2s.

Maybe he could get a little more volume, but it seeems pretty reasonable and appropriate to me.

You forgot to mention he's injured and might not play, Sooooooo... Those stats aren't as strong now, and for a player with a bad injury history and now he's injured?.. and you also have to thinking only 33 targets?... he just isn't getting open enough for more targets, I'm 100% positive Darnold would throw to him more if he could get open more...

You forgot to mention that he has one less game than most of the receivers he’s being compared to.

And we are near the top of the league in percent of offensive plays that are rushing attempts.

Why would Darnold be looking for him when he has the leagues leading receiver opposite him, and always getting open?

Kupp is pretty the perfect WR2 to JSN. He isn’t clamoring for more targets. He’s just getting open, and taking advantage of the passes that are thrown his way. If anything, the completion percentage would suggest he is open more than the team is taking advantage of.

It's not like Cupp is dropping passes, Darnold only throws to JSN. Waddle would be awesome but more importantly, go get a RG
Sam throws to other guys, when they are open. None of the other guys get separation.

And, too say the #2 WR can't be a stud aswell is absolutely ludicrous and small thinking..

What are you talking about? That was the entire point of me choosing them — to show that he’s a stud, producing on par with some big name WR1s, despite being a 2.

More targets always show the lesser percentage... just like 20 out of 25, but verses 80 out of like 140... Sure the guy with 20-25 is going to have the better percentage rate... go through all the #2 WRs in this league and compare them to Kupp and then comeback at me... Because I'm watching Horton as our #2WR and he's owning his spot...🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

Kubiaks best game made everyone look good.

I liked that Sam was in shotgun and under center.

Cody White, Tory Horton and the Tight Ends.

Bradford was passblocking like a king.

We knew running at edges was better

A plus everyone.

You are making the claim, you show the data. I’m not doing your homework for you.

His production is within the realm of #1s, despite being the clear #2 on the team that runs the fewest passing plays in the league.

Kupp is 51st in receptions, as you should know there is only 32 #1 WRs in the league , so that means Kupp is 18th in receptions in the #2 WR category (roughly)... That's not well with in the relm of #1 WRs in my opinion... and of course a #1 WR is going to get more targets, and as that #1 WR the defense is doing everything they can to take that #1 away so his percentage is going to be lower just by the nature of his position, I don't see defenses out there doubling Kupp... and Frankly, with how well Horton played lastnight Kupp is going to probably become the #3 guy... and, I'm tired of arguing this subject.. so, I'm going just say it's ok that we don't see eye-2-eye on this... ✌🏻

That's not how stats work. The % is what it is once you reach a statistically viable denominator.

Why was Horton so productive last night? Could it be WA blanketed JSN to take him out of the game.

I'm rooting for Horton to become a #1...and can do that while still appreciating what Kupp does for the team.

The stats you're using are only a subset of what makes a WR productive. Kinda confused on the argument being made.
