We looked like complete shit today especially on Special teams. Typically when we shit the bed we come out the next week looking focused and ready to blow out anyone. We got our BIG UGLY win, now time to play playoff football. The one thing this team has to learn is bury the hatchet and put teams away.

Way to beat the Officials is make big plays and keep making them and take the officials out of it, close games they will stick it to you at the most heartbreaking possible moment.

See Super Bowl 48.

Dallas won on their final drive against a 5-11 team. I'm not going to read too much into today.

Problem with the big plays is if you're doing too good against one of the perennial darling teams they'll find a hold or phantom pi somewhere...

I despise Dallas with a passion. I wanted Chicago first. I don't trust Dallas in Dallas. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if good ole boy jerry pays the refs off behind close doors. That's how much of a dirt bag I think this guy is. Dallas as a Team well they suck. In reality we win hands down...soundly but in jerry's world I don't think we leave with the W. Just my 2 cents.

Hawks got the best path they could have hoped. Chicago in January would have been awful.

The 6 man line has not played together for a couple weeks. Time to get Fant at TE with the 5 regular starters again.

The Hawks did rest some players. Wright didn't get a lot of snaps and after turning his ankle early Shaq stayed out. T2 could also return to provide defensive depth. Some of the ST blocking problems can likely be resolved with the return of Sweezy and Fluker.

Doug is not going to have another day like that. The weather will actually help the Hawks in Dallas.

Russell vs Dak, I'm taking RW all day and twice on Saturday.

The really good news is the game in Dallas is at Jerry's World, so there's no possibility of the game being cancelled due to the weather... Of course that wasn't the case for the Boise State - Boston College game.. Just had to throw this in because it is still a bitter moment for anyone who traveled to Dallas for the Bowl Game.. Enough about that.... GO HAWKS!!! :irishdrinkers:

I'm pretty sure there's none of this "owners paying the refs" stuff. That's kinda ridiculous. But, the NFL as a whole? I dunno. There are Billions at stake, so you never know where money is concerned. The reason I don't fully embrace bald-faced "fixing" is because there would be too many people involved to not have at least one good, solid leak from a disgruntled ref or somebody involved. There'd have to be at least one, right? It would be worth MILLIONS for that info. Somebody would crack! And yet we have none. I'm thinking if there are undeserved flags, it would be on certain refs (that are humans, and would be bad humans in this case) that happen to have prejudices against a certain team, or any team opposing THEIR team, which I could see. Kinda like, hmmm... One of the Refs from SBXL that just happened to have been born and raised in Pittsburgh. I mean, I'm sure he probably wasn't a Steelers fan growing up there, with enough love for the game to become an NFL referee. Right? I may think he would want to become an NFL ref to maybe, just maybe, be able to one day help his team win a SB. Is that outlandish? And let's not forget the gambling angle... It happened in the NBA. So it's totally possible. To reference an old song, "Things that make ya go hmmmmm..".

I know what your saying. I just can't stand Dallas at all. I think we would have been alright if we drew Chicago first. Our path if we win is Dallas first then the saints and hopefully the Rams in the Conference Championship if they make it. I know we are licking our chops for another crack at the Rams.

Did you know Jerome Bettis was from Detroit?

XL* was an outright fix!

I don’t think the NFL liked the national backlash they got from it.

They still “steer” games IF THEY ARE CLOSE and want a desired result (see legacy teams with big fan bases to sell NFC/AFC champions and Super Bowl champions swag to.) Bigger the fanbase the more merch the sell = more $$$ for the NFL coffers. Purely financial, just good for business.

That’s why you need to build early leads and don’t take your foot of the pedal, see XLVIII.

Actually they didn’t. The call was right according to the rule at the time. Bad rule, I agree. According to the rule Dez didn’t catch the ball.
McCarthy knew the rule and challenged it and won the challenge.

Besides *allas got some zebra help the week before and shouldn’t have advanced against Detroit.

They called an obvious DPI against *allas which was correct, announced it, started marching off the yardage, then decided to change their minds and picked up the flag. Detroit was the one that got absolutely screwed the week before.

I think we drew the best possible match-up for next week. I would much rather play a so-so Dallas team in their dome than go up against Chicago's defense in 20 degree weather.

Pretty sure the official made the right call as per the rules of the day. Hence the change of the catch rules.

I don't recall a bunch of ticky tack holding calls heavily biased to one team in that game. That's what irks me is when all the borderline judgement calls go one way. At least in hockey and basketball when the refs realize they've been unfair they even things up a bit to make it fair and call a few ticky tack fouls on the other team. Because as you know you can call holding and PI on practically every play. Good refs know when its influencing the outcome of the play and when its not and penalize accordingly.
