Russell Wilson.

Holy crap.

It was that same feeling at the end of the Chicago game, or the Atlanta game (loss or not - his performance was inspired if not otherwordly).

There is just something about the guy that radiates confidence. Not just in himself, but a belief in his team that makes you the viewer believe in the team. Combine that with what seems an unswerving dedication to being better, no matter how great he has already has done (instead of basking in the accolades, which is an easy trap to fall into) and then the bonus of how he conducts himself off the field (so far as we know).

I don't know if you could imagine all the of the attributes of a QB falling into place like they have here. The guy just shines.

We really got lucky. Even the people that loved him could never have predicted just how amazing he has been (on and off the field).

Maybe this should be in another Russell Wilson thread, but it really isn't about how great he has done so far. It is more about just how fortunate we as a fan base are to have someone like this fall into our lap. Just amazing.

Don't get me wrong... Russell is fantastic and you're right, we're very fortunate to have him... but Russell doesn't play defense. Russell didn't hold Drew Brees to his worst performance is 10 years. Russell Wilson didn't shut down Jimmy Graham. Russell didn't make Darren Sproles invisible. Russell does his part and he does it extremely well, but make no mistake... the star of THIS show is the defense.

That Saints defense was a paper tiger that was ripe for shredding and the Hawks O did what a good offense should. The Saints offense though is beyond legitimate, perhaps the most prolific offense of this generation, and the Hawks made them look like a Div II team. This is best defense the NFL has seen since the `02 Bucs. Maybe better. They are so dominant when they want to be. THAT's what I'm greatful for and that's what's going to win us a title this year.

I don't often disagree with you CAN (because we're both so freakin' brilliant!) but the defense is not the star of the show as you put it. Without the QB, no team is as good as what we saw last night. The position is just too important in football to win without a top flight guy. The days of Trent Dildofer winning a Super Bowl are over, and IMO a lot of it has to do with the rules nowdays. Joe Flaccid isn't that great, but he won last year cuz he got insanely hot in the postseason (like 13 TDs and ZERO ints IIRC). Are we 11-1 without this defense? Of course not. In fact we make the playoffs with this defense and average QB for sure. But this team ain't winning the Superb Owls they're gonna win without Russell Wilson IMO.

Now if you meant that the defense was the star of the show last night, then yeah I concur. But overall, RW will be the star of the Seahawks show for the next 11-15 years.

I have never seen a QB like this in Seattle. This is always the guy that OTHER teams draft. I'm still getting used to having a legit franchise QB that will end up being elite, barring injury. It's so weird. This is the first time I have had this in my just-over-thirty years of life. I came of age as a Seahawks fan during the days of Kitna and Foley and such.

The Hawks D Benefits from RW, in that he Keeps them (along with Drew Brees) off the field. There were plenty of times last night where the Saints D should have had us Dead to rights, but RW keeps the Drive alive and Keeps us moving down the field.

Yeah, but Russell does set the tone in practice, off the field, in the lockerroom, in the class room and in life in general.

He's the ultimate team player, he could have thrown his O-line under the bus, but he didn't, that's not him.

It may have took the team half the season in 2012 to realize it and finally respect him but the guy just has Championship intangibles and is a great leader probably not just football but a great role model for all of mankind.

What the guy does just radiates to the rest of the team, Russ is the one keeping everyone together and telling them they can do this, he keeps them all on same page of the Championship book.

That's what he does. And when the team can't keep up either Offensively or Defensively, Wilson just takes control and takes over.

I was leaning more toward last night, but same could be said for the season as a whole I think. I totally agree that we don't get to be Superb without our elite franchise quarterback of the future doing what he does, but at the same time, I don't necessarily tinks it's the best blueprint to have him will us to win every game as a shoot-out the way Denver or New Orleans do. But really, we aren't what we are without having greatness on both sides of the ball. That is where Denver and New Orleans will come undone. As much as Rog & Co. probably love it, NEEDING to score 40 points a game on the back of your quarterback isn't the recipe for success I want to follow.

That's my favorite thing about this team; how incredibly well rounded it is. We're built to compete against anyone and everyone. We can wil slugfests and we can win shootouts. We can shutdown Drew Brees as easily as we can score 30 on the 9'ers D. This team is poised for greatness... yay.

I'd say that the only luck involved is that no other QB-needy teams were willing to think outside the box enough to draft a 5'10 3/4" QB before we did (after Schneider was talked out of taking Wilson in the 2nd).

The rest of it is skill and hard work. Carroll finding the right guy to work with in Schneider. Schneider bringing his eye for talent to the team. Wilson's ridiculous natural talent and work ethic. And Carroll's fostering of the team identity and atmosphere that leads to every guy there being 100% on board and all pulling in the same direction.

Make no mistake, the foundation has been laid to make Seattle a contender for the next decade, and it will take continued skill and hard work to keep the Seahawks at that level. But we already know that every guy on this team will put in that work. Those that won't tend to find themselves shipped off in trades.

There were times this year when our wounded OL was a sieve.

Some of our linemen were forced to play other positions, and they were not just bad they were horrible. Wilson was being shelled. People were worried that we were going to "ruin" him. If Wilson was anything less than the QB he was at those moments, we would have lost at least 1-2 of those games.

Not only that, but his relentless attitude kept the team from turning on itself. And there were plenty of times that the fingers of blame could have been pointed (for example, I was livid about some of the playcalling by Bevell at that time but he looked like a genius last night so maybe I don't know what I am talking about).

This team wins with defense and the defense absolutely won the game for us last night. You would have never known that our secondary was depleted, or that people were ripping KJ half the year (If you would have told people before the game that our gameplan was to put KJ on Graham to stop him, I imagine that before the game we would have seen our share of angry threads predicting dark things).

The Defense won it for us, but having a QB like Wilson got us to where winning that game put us in the position we are now.

After all the agonizing about not getting a QB of the Future in the 1st round, it is pretty amazing that an even better QB just fell into our laps in the 3rd.

Russell Wilson being short is the best thing that could have happened to the Seahawks.

Anyone, anywhere, anytime. That's the Pete Carroll way. He and John have built a team that can live up to it. The Hawks have balance and depth. They can grind it out or kill you with explosive plays.

It's a good time to be a Seahawks fan.
