Completely disagree about his intangibles being Russell Wilson like. If you ask me, ever since winning the Heisman trophy Manziel has shown a really large degree of immaturity (completely understandable for a 20 year old kid being thrust into the spotlight). Seems he's been on TMZ more often then he's been on a practice field. Doesnt appear to me that he takes his craft very seriously at all. Wouldnt surprise me even a little bit if his play was not nearly as good this year as last.
That said, as far as his on the field leadership, and in game intangibles, i'll agree with you there, he's excellent. When on the field he's a good leader and somebody his team rallies around.
Obviuosly he's an amazing athlete, has really good football intelligence and is a great playmaker but I dont think he really throws the ball that well. He's about average in that regard, imo. There are many college QB's who throw the ball better then he does.
Even with those negatives i'd definatly spend a top 5 pick on him, and possibly the number 1 overall pick in most drafts (not with Clowney on the board though) just on playmaking ability and potential alone. I don't think he's anything close to a sure thing NFL star though. He still has a lot to work on and a lot of growing up to do, imo. But the athletecism and ability are definatly there if he focuses on his craft and makes himself better.
Give me Russell Wilsons work ethic and throwing ability with Manziel's crazy athletecism and feel for the game and i'd give you the most dominant QB in history. I just havnt seen anything that tells me Manziel has that maniacal desire to improve like Russell does.
I know i'll be called a homer and know most won't agree wtih me but I'm still fairly confident that Marcus Mariota will have a better professional career then Manziel simply because he throws the ball better and is much more polished in the passing game which is more important in the NFL then in the NCAA.
Manziel would be my #1 Qb this year by a land slide. But I'd take Luck, Wilson and Griffin over Manziel for sure. Maybe even Bridgewater next year, but I havnt watched enough of him to know for sure.
