It will be interesting to see what the substance ends up being (if we ever really find out or it is hinted at). But if it's "non-PED" a good guess would be weed. And not that it is a defense of WT at all. But what % of NFL players would you guess smoke weed?

Retired lineman Lomas Brown estimated about 50%.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d8 ... -smoke-pot

IF, and right now it's a big if, IF Thurmond was popped for Weed and roughly half the league is smoking it, are you still insanely pissed at him and want him burned at the stake? There's obviously still blame for irresponsibility. But what about all the other guys who currently smoke that you don't know about? Was there something WT did or didn't do to fail the test or not be ready for it, that most players who smoke are able to do to pass it? It's a very interesting conversation if it ends up being the case.

I had a feeling some shenanigans would happen to the Hawks during the bye. Damn Walter!
I think that the thing that is bothering me most about this entire thread is the huge leaps that people are making.....it is extremely UNLIKELY that this offense was committed during this week, it is far more likely that the Hawks have known about this possibility for a long time and that WT3 had already informed the team of his positive test. My guess is that this is the reason that we've been paying Deshawn Thread a lot of money for a practice squad guy is because we knew this was coming and expect him to step up in the next 4 weeks.

My hope is that a combination of the reports is true and that WT3 appeals and plays in the Saints game but drops his appeal thereafter and sits out the final 4 weeks of the season.

Why not drop the appeal after the Saints game? The Saints game is infinitely more important for HFA purposes than the last four regular season games. That makes no damn sense.

That is the strategic approach and what it sounds like they have planned.

Pete runs a loose ship. This is on him too.

Easy. These are grown men. The same loose ship has us 10-1 with one of the strongest locker rooms in the league. Some just need to grow the eff up.

Ten and one with adderal, and who knows what else now. At some point Pete needs to tighten up this type of stuff. I personally don't want druggies on my team regardless of record.

Good thing it's not your team.

:34853_doh: take a joke much? baldwin is the king of internet sanctimony.

Even if he is the king of sanctimony, his sanctimony usually is in defense of his teammates being attacked by tough guy fans on the internet. Like I said before. I tend to agree with him on that issue. Sanctimony is perfectly fine, if you have a point. And I'm not talking about fans venting or voicing their frustrations on forums such as this. But instead those who attack and go after players on Twitter. Extremely obnoxious and inhumane, IMO.

Obligatory comment to relate that I'm obviously upset and disappointed with Walter Thurmond. Dude has let his team down. But what's done is done. I truly believe that outside of Russell Wilson and to an extent Marshawn Lynch, that this team is bigger than any one player. The position has taken an obvious hit. But next man up. I look forward to seeing what Byron Maxwell, Jeremy Lane, and others are able to do with the opportunity handed to them. Wasn't long ago that Richard Sherman took advantage of Thurmond going down for a different reason.

Wow, this news just craps all over my Sunday. Bloody hell. In addition to being good, you need so much luck, so many things to go your way for a Super Bowl season. How many obstacles can one team overcome, even a very, very good team? Even the league's best team?

And if our nation's ongoing, non-logical, infantile, useless, ignorant and counter-productive relationship with marijuana is the root of this? In one of two states that are finally, FINALLY taking the first tentative baby steps toward rationality? Unimaginably depressing.

Eff you, war on drugs. :( :( :(

I have to agree, If it's non P.E.D., then he has failed before, thus would be in the program. This failure could not be from this week as the team won't report back till tomorrow(Monday), So this test came at an earlier date. It will be interesting watching to see how they handle the suspension, Back for the Rams. Or play against the Saints and back for the playoffs.

1 more thing about legal weed in WA. The company I work for sent letters to all WA and CO. employees 2 weeks after the passage, stating Company policy will not change....Just saying...

It's probably weed, given the cheap, easy availability of top, top quality ganja in Washington State. Part of me thinks it's bullshit that these guys can have their employment status drawn into jeopardy for partaking of a substance that is now legal in the state where they are employed. The other part of me thinks Thurm is a dumbass who would have gotten paid next year and now he's going to be on a short-term "prove it" deal for another year or two. Not just that, he has hurt the team in the process, during a time where we are top contenders in the NFC. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

He who is without sin shall cast the first stone… apparently there are no stones left. Mistakes happen, y’all need to get over yourselves.

Pretty pissed at Thurmond for letting his team down like this. But I kinda gotta agree with Doug here. Some fans needs to chill just a tad. Anonymous internet sanctimony from many who have done just as bad or some much worse is one of the lamer aspects to the this whole online thing.

Ten. Imagine that. Wanting non druggies on my team. You can have it both ways you know. You can win with druggies.

A friend just pointed it out to me. For non-PED drug busts, if you get suspended, it means you failed once before. Making the offense by WT all the worse, IMO. Getting busted once is one thing. A second time when you know you're being watched even close? :34853_doh:

Makes sense though. He did go to Oregon, where they don't exactly care much for rules. ;)

Walter Thurmond it seems we have seen this late season DB loss before. I hope it doesn't affect the Super Bowl, like Ken Hamlins partying did.

Oh, it's beyond bullshit. It's outrageous in the original sense of the word. Given the savagely out-of-proportion size of the penalties involved, non performance-related marijuana testing is a considerable injustice. And one that many (most?) of us don't really give a crap about because, meh, potheads, hippies, eff 'em.

I honestly don't think Pete has drilled it into their minds like he should that this crap is unacceptable... This probably won't be last time either.

Oh... Remember Sherman DID sit out one day of practice before Minnesota game. No coincidence he got burnt for a td in that game and had no tackles. I hope the bye week helps because he was obviously hurt last week which makes this unfortunate news even more detrimental

He got burned biting on a double move. A weak move at that as all the guy did was turn his head. I doubt that one day of missed practice was a big reason he bite on that play.
