How is this or any other Pete Carrolls fault? The only thing Pete can do is cut guys for failing drug test. They're grown men, be upset with them not Pete.
Pete creates the atmosphere the team lives in. A loose ship means players feel like they can do whatever they want. Since most of these guys aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, it's pretty obvious shit like this will happen. There's a reason this doesn't happen to other teams.

"Loose ships" dont have the best record in the nfl.

you guys make it sound like pete is thrilled that his players get busted

Oh he is, him and Schnieder were passing joints and popping mollies with WT3.

I honestly don't think Pete has drilled it into their minds like he should that this crap is unacceptable... This probably won't be last time either.

Oh... Remember Sherman DID sit out one day of practice before Minnesota game. No coincidence he got burnt for a td in that game and had no tackles. I hope the bye week helps because he was obviously hurt last week which makes this unfortunate news even more detrimental

My guess is marijuana

I agree. Legal in the state not the NFL. Makes sense

Some people need to chill. The backups are deep and all pretty good. He is not superman we lost. He will be back for the last game of the season and perhaps BB too.

It's not the fault of the front office. They are big boys.. You can't fix stupid.

So Sherm and BB were tested last preseason, then faced suspension after - what - week 12? Now this after week 11?

I'm confused about the timing of these things. Admittedly I'm not scouring the webz for all the ins & outs, but it's weird that this has happened just before the playoff run two years in a row.

It's apples and oranges. There is a different procedure in place for substance abuse (pot, cocaine, etc.) and taking a banned substance that is on the league's PED list. Thurmond is suspended for substance abuse, which means he failed the test in the offseason and failed subsequent tests during the season in order to get a suspension. The testing for PED's happens randomly through the season and one positive test automatically earns you a four-game suspension. Thurmond got popped in the offseason and kept failing tests. Browner and Sherman tested positive one time during the season and were immediately suspended pending appeal (which Sherman won, of course.)

This is so disappointing. I can't understand why any of these guys would use especially during a championship run.

Because he doesn't care enough. Obviously.

Looks like he'll serve his suspension now to be ready for playoffs.

Hopefully browner will be to actually.. So in this case I'd still cut Thurmond ass from the team...make a statement out of it an example of "You wanna ignore your fellow players, embarrass the organization, and Look like an idiot? Well here let us help you look like even more like an idiot without a team, turn in you sh!t and gtfo"

He obviously wasn't "ALL IN"

Maxwell, is prob the closest guy to browner and Thurmond with experience so he'll prob start in the position, too bad this games huge cuz the following games we'd prob see a rotation of Simon (if we can?)

Well, this does explain some of his postgame outfits, at any rate.

As for how the team will do without him, the Saints game in particular will be tough, but we did survive without Browner and Thurmond last year and this season we have a much better pass rush, which will hopefully take some of the pressure off Maxwell and Lane.

The MNF game is key. We win that, we likely get homefield advantage even if we drop a couple of the games that follow. Our front seven absolutely needs to step up. We get enough pressure on Brees we can with that game with Maxwell and Lane playing CB. Otherwise we've got a serious problem.

Sucks to hear, but I have a lot of confidence in Maxwell. Just a hunch, but I think he ultimately becomes the guy that replaces both Thurmond and Browner. Obviously Lane can be a contributor too.

If I was JS/PC I'd boot his him right away take the money hit but the action itself would make a statement.
There is no money hit.

Thurmond is in the last year of his rookie contract... ~$600,000 for the year.

If he's cut, his game checks stop immediately.

The kid did something stupid... couldn't stay away from recreational drugs even after getting caught... and he will pay for his mistake but his actions hurt the team... and he should also pay for that.

Just pisses me off.

My respect for him no longer exists.

It should have been abundantly clear to him that this was unacceptable. Then to continue doing it even after being caught is completely selfish and says the man has no self control. Most likely this behavior will continue and I would have no problem cutting him at this point.

Addiction is faceless. So is dumbassed behavior. This will be kept confidential, as it should be. Who knows what the appeal might bring, let's not jump to conclusions.

In the mean time, if we are "best and deepest secondary in football" then let's prove it. And at least our pass rush is kickass.

EDIT: some of these comments are hilariously delusional. It's amazing how fast the Outraged Internet Mob gathers to spew their disdain.

Even better then, no money hit, and that frees up some mula, not a lot but some.. and I agree he hurt the organization and, well I'm sure when our vets held their little meeting this was a slap to them to show he never listened. I also agree I have zero respect for the dude. I really think the only way to lessen this "black eye" we've attained from this, is to cut him. It'll show that PC/JS aren't and don't put up with it and don't want anything to do with it. 2 years in a row during the same time frame..

I could take the same frame of mind as some fans and say, conspiracy theory, teams can't beat us so the NFL will. But that would be ignorance at its finest. Its plain and its simple he screwed up, he needs a reality check and since last year, as well as the vet talk those weren't obviously wasn't enough.

I love him as a player but you just can't do this kind of stuff, I mean if your life is all football and you're on a team that has a real chance to go to the superb owl, you wouldn't catch me near anything that would jeopardize that. Really selfish and stupid move and such terrible timing.

Hopefully Sherman's on Graham.

I still see no reason why this team can't clinch HFA. Aside from the Saints, the remaining offenses on the schedule all have major issues. This team won every game last year down BB and WT3. We can do it again.

Unfortunate judgment on the part of WT3, but let's calm down on the desire to annex him out of the city.

Get off your high horses. Everyone. Keep blaming Pete. Loose ship. No control. Hasn't drilled it into their heads. Yeah, I'm sure that's accurate. When things like this happen, .Net turns into a JOKE. Go outside and get some fresh air or something.
