Must See Video. Besides the fact that they are about to break the longest Playoff Drought in Major American Sports History! (And, Lewis and Kelenic were supposed to be foundation players. Scott has managed around that myth) This video shows why Scott Servais should be the Manager of the Year

Three reasons for Seattle's recent surge. September 6th, 2022 Daniel Kramer

2. They’re winning on the road

Earlier this summer, the brutal road travel was wearing the club down. But after four separate trips from the Pacific to Eastern Time Zones through their first half, the Mariners navigated the meat of their schedule and have emerged as one of MLB’s better road teams.

The Mariners became just the third team in MLB history to sweep two six-game road trips in one season, and their 41 road wins trail only the Dodgers (45) and Astros (43), arguably the two favorites to reach the World Series. For a Mariners club that will travel 46,385 miles this season, second most in MLB, it’s been a notable turnaround.

'Walter,' Logan Gilbert's alter ego, has arrived

After tossing 6 scoreless innings, Mariners righty wows teammates with raw emotion

Scott Servais discusses Logan Gilbert’s start and more from the Mariners' 3-0 win over the White Sox.

SEATTLE -- Within the walls of the Mariners’ clubhouse, many have already met “Walter,” the imposing alter ego of Logan Gilbert. But on Tuesday night, the fiery and seemingly out-of-character second personality of the starting pitcher went mainstream.

On Gilbert's 101st and final pitch in a 3-0 win over the White Sox at T-Mobile Park, the towering right-hander blew a 98.6 mph fastball by AJ Pollock to strand two runners and cap his sixth scoreless inning. It was a tense sequence, with the tying run on third base and the go-ahead run on first.

Yet, Gilbert used every bit of his 7.5-foot extension down the mound, completely emptied the tank with his second-fastest pitch of the game, watched Pollock whiff and then clenched his fists and screamed with such raw emotion that brought to life the alter ego that’s been heard of, but never quite seen.

Gilbert might have taken the mound ahead of that moment, but “Walter” walked off.

I LOVE the emotion "Walter" showed on that last strike out.

"Yeaahhhh!!! Let's Gooooo!!!"

The 2022 Mariners led by their 21-year-old phenom and a revamped roster look to end the game's longest current postseason drought.

Five things we've learned since the Trade Deadline September 6th, 2022 Will Leitch

5. The Mariners made sure they're about to make franchise history.

When the Mariners traded for Castillo, it was widely thought to be the sort of surgical move a team needed to secure its opportunity at ending a 21-season playoff drought. But they didn't go too huge at the Deadline, especially considering how much this team likes to make trades.

But what they did do was see baseball's easiest schedule out in front of them. They have taken full advantage: They were barely hanging on to the second Wild Card spot, just one game ahead of Cleveland, at the time, but now they've gone 21-10 since then (with plenty of help from Castillo, who has been great) and have a 5-game lead on Baltimore, the team last scrambling to get into the Wild Card.

The Mariners now have a 99.3 percent chance of making the playoffs, according to Fangraphs Playoff Odds. They're gonna do it. They're really gonna do it.
