Unless there are rules violations closing threads with a list of comments added is frowned upon as posters don't like seeing their post stats diminished. Makes no sense to me but that's what I've always been told.

Is there a lock option, where the posts remain, but the thread cannot be added to?

There used to be but I don't see that in the mod toolbox now. I assume that means the lock option is an administrative decision.
