He was supposedly offered 3 years - $30 million by Detroit last year

He sated earlier last month that he expected Mario Williams money...

Not sure how this got done but reality check happened AND he is motivated to play for the next deal. He can get a five year deal next for big money if he plays good under this contract.

Watching clips, Avril has played almost exclusively from the LDE position.

Don't think he's our LEO. I think he's our Bruce Irvin pass rush specialist. He'll play opposite Irvin on passing downs.

I'd love to see Clem at 3tech on passing downs.
$7.5m is a hefty pricetag for a situation pass rusher, no?

Misquote. When asked if he wanted Mario Williams money, he said "who wouldn't want Mario Williams money!"

We paid 5 million to Jason Jones last year, and he had far less impact and pedigree than Avril.

So how long will it take San Francisco to sign John Abraham now that we've got Avril? I put the over/under at about three hours.

Actually they were in talks to sign Dorsey today, so kind of the same

That's right, I forgot. Well, great! We sign a guy who fits perfectly in our defensive scheme, whereas San Francisco signs a 4-3 DT who has been miscast in a 3-4 scheme his whole career to come in and get miscast in ANOTHER 3-4 scheme.

This day just keeps getting better and better.

Thanks for correcting.

Now the 3 yr $30 million deal was on the table :)

I think it's more that it'd be almost impossible to convince a top of the market FA DT to come fill a role that got the last guy only 44% of defensive snaps last year. Avril isn't coming off a hugely disappointing year where he needs to prove he can be an asset. I just find it unlikely.

The Seattle Seahawks have reached agreement on a two-year, $15 million deal with former Detroit Lions defensive end Cliff Avril, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

I think Avril is the LEO til Clem comes back. He is practically a clone of Clem. Irvin will remain a situational pass rusher and do well in that role. Depending on how Clem is when he comes back and when, some sort of rotation will be developed with Red on the sidelines more frequently. Just my best guess

Im not really sold on Avril. He doesn't appear to be good at defending the run, and about average as a pass rusher. Who knows what being on a different team will bring though

2 year $15m for AVRIL?...holy shit. Grab Vance Walker for peanuts and start up the exotic blitz packages for when RW gives us a lead.

We just aren't worthy of John Schneider's win.

Re the talk of cutting Clem, are we even able to do that whilst he is on IR or PUP? I thought he had to pass a physical before we could cut him, unless we came to an injury settlement (unlikely given what is left on his contract)

Funny how you still have people who think they can evaluate talent better than Pete and John...

If they paid him 7.5M he is worth every penny and will be a huge asset to this team.
