DON'T dilute next years picks. Don't! Unless there is someone so guaranteed to make a HUGE difference this year. Take what you can get this year. Trade back for more shots at the pie. OR don't trade back if there is someone you like at your pick. If possible, get another pick or 2 this year FOR NEXT YEAR. The only downside I see to having so many picks next year is, if JS hits like we know he can, then down the road there'll be tough decisions to be made with so many from a good draft to pay.

If we can get 2 serviceable guys this year....I'll consider it a win. I think JS can do AT LEAST THAT.

The worst part about trading out of the first is having to wait until the next day to see who the new Hawks will be...and hearing how underrated that guy is.
If trading out gets them a srp and a fourth, you know JS has a target and it gets pretty exciting waiting to see who that is. Either way, hard to not trust JS and MM.

I'm at a point where I fully EXPECT JS to trade down unless someone like a Rueben Bain Jr. drops in our laps (which would be insane)...

Been hearing that Olu could be a candidate to trade for a day 3 pick. He was originally a 5th rounder and with some starting experience the asking price could start at a 4th rounder.
Oluwatimi ranked 19th out of 40 centers in the 2024 season. The Seahawks have other potential backup options and Olu has the talent and deserves to have a chance to start in the league.
The Vikings are looking for a center after four time pro bowler Ryan Kelly recently retired.
Minnesota has 9 picks including,

2nd #49
3rd #82
3rd #97
5th #163
6th #196
and three 7th rounders.

John could get creative and package our #64 or #96 with Olu to move up in the 2nd or 3rd.
Or the one I like, we give them Olu & our #96 and they give us #82 and #163 in the 5th and a 7th rounder.
Or NO deal, as in payback for the Hutchinson poison pill. lol

The only two other possible players to trade might be Lock or Milroe, but I would not yard sale either of them.

The NFL has cut the time between first round picks from 10 minutes to 8. I wonder if that's going to effect John's ability to wrangle trades?
Maybe just means more phones going?
John was asked that question at a recent presser and his answer was that it will have little to no impact. The reason being is that the foundation of these trades is usually laid out well in advance of the time you are on the clock.

I would rather the team favor quality over quantity. After the 2013 Super Bowl, it felt like we stockpiled a lot of mid round picks that rarely worked out. But, I’ve learned my lesson when it comes to criticizing Schneider

A lot of draft picks account for nothing if they don’t work out. I’d rather hit on 4 players with 4 picks only than something like 9 picks and 1 hit only.

Remember, LJ Collier? He was drafted the same year as Metcalf. In that year, Metcalf, is the only player that has made an impact in the NFL. All the other picks (10 total Seahawks picks) are out of the league and/or depth players.
Yes, you're right. However, the thinking is that after the top 15 picks, the draft is all a crapshoot, so the best way to improve your chances of hitting on a player is to have more picks.

It has been seven years since John traded down in the first round, and 9 since he traded out of the first round entirely, so some degree of skepticism about this being his current MO is reasonable.

I do think that any team with only four picks would be looking to trade the least valuable 1st round pick for a couple of later round picks, so it’s a reasonable expectation, if he can find a trade partner.
Was just about to say this. It makes perfect sense that he would want to trade out this year given the circumstances (picking 32nd, having only four picks total), but those calling it his "MO" are living in the past.

Collier wasn't bad, he did serviceable work as a Card, we under Pete had a habit of round peg in square hole with some players, many times it worked, he was one that didn't.

Remember our core bunch of players will be going into contract years here going forward, having a stack of picks for depth and or replacement is needed to keep you in the relevant catagory, also there may be eyes on someone already that he needs ammo for making a trade if need be.

No doubt. Hoping Ty Simpson somehow falls. Very good chance a team would want to swoop him up and get that 5th year option.
Cards make a lot of sense, though I wouldn't be surprised if they trade up to a spot before 32. Jets also needing a QB.......as usual
This is what I'm thinking that would give JS an upper hand. If Ty Simpson is still available at 32, he should have at least the Jets and Cardinals (and maybe others) ready with a deal.

I believe JS about no worries with the 8 minute 1st round clock. I'll even add this... IF Ty Simpson is there and they don't have enough time to make the deal, I could see SEA drafting Ty Simpson at 32 and just working the trade overnight. Might sound a bit risky, but might prove to help land more in compensation.

Personally...I don't buy it.

His 1st round picks have been killers (lately, and with only a couple exceptions historically). He never shows his cards, but this year it's all he talks about. We know his scouts study other teams' needs to predict their targets.

He's (potentially) discouraging high 2nd round teams from moving up to get one of his 1st round graded targets. Or he's trying to make it seem a target will be there after the 32nd pick that a team ahead of him might want. It may not work, but I just don't see the secretive, paranoid, strategic JS of the past simply blabbing his intentions for no reason. He's the Exec of the Year. He may just be saying the opposite of his intentions to muddy things up next year. He's playing chess, they're playing checkers, and we're not even in the building....
I’m with you. JS isn’t and won’t show his cards like that.

I interpret this as he’s either staying put and dealing some ‘27 picks for a pick or two this year OR he’s moving up.

Yah…there’s too much hype about wanting to deal the pick.

JS is up to something or?

More likely, hoping teams interpret this hype as him moving back no matter what and he snatches Price.

No shenanigans (i.e., hype is real), he’s grabbing Washington in the 3rd 🥉 somehow.

Gemstradamus has spoken.

Note: I honestly don’t even see us taking a RB this year…😂…maybe we’re comfortable with what we’ve got.
