If he can drop down 5-10 spots and get an extra pick, so be it. He'll probably still get one of the guys on his board.
Good points. I love listening to his weekly show on 710 ESPN. He doesn't care what other teams do. He wants to do what is best for THIS team. Look how many times over the years he has picked a guy and many of us are like "who?"If and big if this is true it will be due to the one thing that stands out about John.
He grades players differently, don't believe the Mediots and so call Spurts, if he and Mac see niche value of a player or players graded low by the who he thinks is interested he may pull this trade back off. We need to get a few players to challenge to start for sure, but depth is what hurts you as a Champion team, you lose a lot of it as teams want the attitude and the leadership from a champion as well as the pilfer of high end players if they can get them, looking at you Walker who is now considered the worst signing this season.
For this to happen a team with picks to burn and wants a specific player will have to offer something somewhat enticing.
That type of player is one teams want a 5th year option on like a QB,WR,CB,DE,LT mostly.
Would LOVE them to get a 2nd and 3rd for pick 32. Right in his wheelhouse, imo.It would be really disappointing if he failed to make a trade simply because he didn't feel he was getting enough value, which is an excuse he's made more than once.
The Hawks need more young talent. I'd gladly trade #32 for a 2nd and 3rd. Two chances to add real talent.
He trades back as much or more than anyone. Every year he is always talking about accumulating more picks if the price is right. Sometimes the right guy will fall into their lap s they stand pat but he has made it no secret he wants to trade back and accumulate more picks..It has been seven years since John traded down in the first round, and 9 since he traded out of the first round entirely, so some degree of skepticism about this being his current MO is reasonable.
I do think that any team with only four picks would be looking to trade the least valuable 1st round pick for a couple of later round picks, so it’s a reasonable expectation, if he can find a trade partner.
Thing is, he rarely telegraphs what he's gonna do. He keeps it close to the vest until draft day. Recent trends aside, I know he wants more than 4 players out of this draft, so trading out of the first makes sense to me.He hasn't traded back in the 1st round since 2019. Kind of a trip, because it feels like he always does![]()
Why would the Jets need a QB? Don’t they have Jetsno?!No doubt. Hoping Ty Simpson somehow falls. Very good chance a team would want to swoop him up and get that 5th year option.
Cards make a lot of sense, though I wouldn't be surprised if they trade up to a spot before 32. Jets also needing a QB.......as usual![]()
But but but, they Got GeNO.No doubt. Hoping Ty Simpson somehow falls. Very good chance a team would want to swoop him up and get that 5th year option.

Championship! But but but, they Got GeNO.
Point being, of all the reasons to expect the Hawks to trade down, “John’s MO” is not one of the stronger ones, given his recent history of staying pat.He trades back as much or more than anyone. Every year he is always talking about accumulating more picks if the price is right. Sometimes the right guy will fall into their lap s they stand pat but he has made it no secret he wants to trade back and accumulate more picks..
This year he has even said he wants to trade back for picks for next year on one of his shows as next year will likely be regarded as a much stronger draft class than this one.
Yes it does take a long time. 10I hadn't heard about that, good stuff. 1st round takes way too long, imo.
Not if you ask Mike Tice and the VikingsI hadn't heard about that, good stuff. 1st round takes way too long, imo.
Yes the Vikings, twice. Back to back years.I guess it will fit more neatly into a 3 hour block.
It will create a longer backlog of picks as the TV show catches up with the selection process.
That happens every year , beyond the pick that has been announced, other picks often have already been made. There are occasions when the next 2-3 picks are already in.
The shrinking of the time is all about giving the league more flexibility to move at the desired pace from start to finish.
The consequence could be even more picks in the logjam while the TV show catches up.
I'm wondering if this could help John having a better picture of what players are on/off the Seahawks draft board and giving a clearer signal to teams wanting to trade up if their man is likely to be there
It's all about having a sharp, quick thinking war-room.
I always love it when a team picks very quickly, but I guess that could just be a team that's had their pick in for 20some minutes.
Was it the Vikings that didn't get their pick in and got leapfrogged? lol
