According to overthecap.com he got a vet minimum deal with a $50K signing bonus, so his contract has little impact on our cap space.

That is impressive considering he is not bad as a rotational pass rushing DT. The guy has some crazy height and could give QBs fits by disrupting passing lanes. He could also be a contributor to a blocked punt or kick, as well, and we could see him in heavy ST duty.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the vet minimum is around $1m, which would absolutely impact our cap. I was under the impression that the only time there was no cap impact is when adding rookies at their minimum salary, since the it's the Top 51 contracts that impact the cap.

looks like he said little impact, not no impact.

Also, I read McDaniel's contract was described as an $840K deal with $640K counting against the cap this year. Not sure how they got the $200K off the top for this year, but maybe it is a spread out signing bonus or something?

Code:
Year	Base Salary Prorated Bonus Roster Bonus Workout Bonus Other Bonus	Cap Number	Dead Money	Cap Savings
2013	$840,000 $50,000 $0 $0 $0 $605,000 $50,000 $555,000

Vet minimums don't count the full amount, only $550K, that way older players can compete with younger players on an even basis.

That makes a lot of sense. Gives the vet a chance to stick with it all not coming down to just salary when going against a younger player.

Win-win. We get a solid vet on the cheap, he gets a shot at a roster spot on a contender.

Gotta love it.

Also, wondering if Quinn is going to try to work some Bryant magic on McDaniel at 5 tech. He has insane size for the position as you say to be a swatter. And if all our DTs stick with the team, Seahawks are going to have a killer Goal Line group with Bryant, Mebane, McDaniel, and McDonald.
