A much needed butt-kicking. I'd rather take it now than in week 17 or January.

We've looked really flat offensively for a month, playing very timidly - with a bit of a small field. The deep shots taken when everyone on both sides of the ball knew they needed to be taken.

Bit of a disappointing regression on D after a few promising weeks of getting QB pressure. Goff didn't have to work very hard to look as impressive as he did. Lots of wide open receivers on crossing routes.

Diggs was a bright spot in an otherwise abject use of time. Team didn't play with any fire.

..........So Pete and Schotty and Norton can review the film, figure out how to not suck against the schemes the Rams used on us, and we'll be better for the experience.
Hawks have lost 5 of their last 6 to the Rams while allowing them to score the following number of points:
42, 33, 36, 29 and 28.

Those totals are with 2 different DCs but one "defensive oriented" HC. When will that film review begin to pay dividends?

The Hawks are a missed easy FG by a normally very reliable kicker away from having lost 6 straight to this team. They are a division foe and therefore wins are needed against them. It's going to take a different defensive approach to start winning games against this team and as much as I am a huge supporter of Pete Carroll, I don't know if he's willing to do that.

Both games with the Rams were close last year. Lost by 5 points and 2 points. Rams gave up 31 in BOTH games, not like they were dominant on D either.

The Hawks just don't match up well against the Rams. Fortunately, they likely won't have to play them again this year. I'm not sure what LA figured out coming from their bye, but it's a much different team the last 2 weeks.

After that game, I'm just not sure there's a point to having a football team in Seattle anymore.

Favorite quote of the day.

What yesterday proves is the Rams are still a dangerous team. If you didnt believe that you should have. Yesterday Goff was the best QB on the field. Rams were the best team on the field. But that was just one day.

But we arent a bad as it looked. If you told me before the game the Rams would score 28 points and Goff would throw for under 300 I would take that. That Gurley would run for 79 yrds I would take it.

I expect the Wilson and the O can score more than 28 every game. Last night they sucked, the Oline sucked we dont know what was happening with the WRS and the Rams DBs because you only get glimpses on TV, but it must not have been pretty.

But it only proves we sucked yesterday. It only proves the Rams played great yesterday. It doesnt take away from what the team has accomplished or what they will accomplish.

It's one game coming off a really tough stretch of games on a short week against a division rival that's in a must win situation. I saw this coming I just wish we hadn't lost Penny he was playing great football his first touch tonight was what a 12 yard gain and a first down . That's a huge loss for us right now .

Agree with most of this, would add that division games on the road are always tough. But if sweep our next 3 games (2 against weaker opponents) that means we win our division -- and possibly get a first round bye. Yes it would have been great to beat the Rams and get that 1-seed, but it is really tough to go 14-2 in a season.

My problem with this loss, isn't so much that we lost, we all expected to lose another game, but rather how we lost and how it only affirmed to those idiot TV pundits that we have been lucky...it just only confirmed what they have been saying.

We used to struggle to beat the Rams back when we were flush with HOFs and fielding one of the greatest defenses in NFL history.

Losing to the Rams should be expected, they have our number and recently have been built to beat us.

If any team owns us, that would be the Rams. We were fortunate to even beat them this year. Splitting with them was the general expectation anyway.

Did people really think we were going to win this game, in their home stadium?

The big test will be the 49ers. We have a chance against them. But I would not give us a chance against a Rams team in the playoffs, so the Rams sliding out of the playoffs is great news for us.

If we lose to the 49ers, then we have a larger problem. But losing to the Rams should have been expected. It shouldn't be a cause for panic or even concern. We knew it was coming.

Looking at schedule at beginning. Few if any predicted a sweep of the rams. Many people lost site of this possibility. I admit when im wrong. I thought we were going to win last night, but surprised that a team that always plays us tough (that almost and should have won a super bowl last year) beat us? absolutely not

Nah, the Mediots are going to predict a Seahawks loss every week and/or spout about how they are not as good as their record blah blah blah. It just took 6 weeks for them to be right...….in THEIR minds. This team isn't a 10 win team by accident. What the media claims and then pumps their chests out means absolutely nothing.
One clunker to get only their 3rd loss and their 1st road loss...…..and now the media is right about us? Nope.
The Saints got dominated at HOME to the damn Falcons. So are they also all the sudden not as good as their record?

In other words, look at the 49ers and how they beat the Saints IN New Orleans!

THAT is a team that wants it. THAT is a team that is deserving of the top seed.

Sigh.

They gave up 46 points. Not that I don't get what you're saying; they've been consistently good this year and they did the clutch thing.

But if I'm a 49ers fan, I'm not real happy with that defense right now (yes I know, injuries) and hope it's an anomaly and not a marker of things to come down the stretch.

Interesting quote from Lockett on Michael-Shawn Dugar's Athletic piece:

Lockett: “Yeah, but we haven’t been running plays to be explosive. We’ve been running plays to run the ball and control the clock. We haven’t been trying to go over the top like we normally have because teams have been game-planning that.”

In hindsight, defenses are daring the Hawks to run the ball. They essentially can live with Carson running for 80-100 yards a game, but as long as they stop the passing game, that makes Russ so dangerous. Which is why we're running on 2nd & 10 sometimes.

Last night reminded me of the playoff game against Dallas (minus the bad run game). There was no flow, and the play calling was out of wack. It seemed like the coaches didn't know how to answer what LA was giving us, and it resulted in the poor play we saw.

Interesting concept. So Elite teams never stumble and have a bad game??

Wrong!!

Elite by most standards is at or near top 5....and we still are.

The Hawks haven't been elite in 5 years ; and won't be again until the Hawks rebuild the OL and keep Wilson clean and on his feet .

I don't think their is a real good definition of Elite. Kind of like porn, "I may not know how to define it but I know it when I see it".
I don't think we've looked Elite all year. We have an elite record but that took some very fortunate end game heroics and misses to happen. To me Elite teams will dominate at least several games a season. We've have been dominated more than we've dominated other teams.

As I've said many times this year, the 2019 Seahawks are plucky overachievers who hang around most games and pull out improbable wins. This is not the 2012-2015 Seaahwks that were bigger, stronger and faster than everyone else.

That being said, many a plucky overachiever has won a Superbowl. 2005 Steelers come immediately to mind. The first Patriots SB winning squad in 2001 was far from an elite force. The Giants under Eli Manning were never an Elite team but just got hot at the right time for 2 SB wins. Joe Flacco's Baltimore SB team was hardly Elite.

So basically, I'm saying there's a chance. We don't look like the elite squads of NO, BAL or SF but if we can take care of business these next two weeks and squeak out a victory in week 17, we'll have HFA through the playoffs and that's not bad for our plucky group.

Not sure if a rebuilding year allows for us to be elite. I am not sure how that works tho. Just a game man.

This is the NFL, "elite" is a fluid thing, and is week to week. It's not as constant, never has been.

The good teams and coaches try to get their team as close to elite this time of year as they can.............I thought we were trending in that direction. But after last night, not so sure.

But we'll see how this team responds. I'm not jumping ship, one bad loss this time of year can be a good thing. Everything we want is still there, win out.

Exactly
The year we won 48- right around this time they lost an incomprehensible ( what we thought at the time) game at home to Arizona. It broke Russells undefeated home record at the time-

So by your standard, we can win the Superbowl and not be elite then. :snack:

Brilliant!!

Time for you to re-define elite it sounds like. This is why this topic goes non-stop every time it comes up.
