Nearly certain it is weed. Weed is one of the only drugs that is reliably detectable by way of urinalysis.

Nah, most drugs are detectable in the urine - metabolites are a beatch.

Isn't weed legal for recreational use in Washington now?

By state law only. That doesn't mean an employer, in this case the NFL, cannot still ban it and have you tested. State law does not supersede federal law. It is actually still a federal crime to grow, possess, or use it.

Doesn't matter what it was. In the NFL, many over the counter medications that anyone can buy are forbidden.

Whether it should be law is another discussion for another time.

The question right now is, which laws are the important ones in the eyes of the NFL?

DUI?
breaking and entering a donut store? (and theft!).
Dog torture? The NFL "banned" Vick from the NFL, but as soon as he left prison the NFL welcomed him back with open arms!

Oh no, the guy enjoying a recreational drug that isn't alcohol or nicotine is the guy we should ban for a year.

and if it WAS for pot... it isn't even a crime in seattle!

You are showing your ignorance.

Good job on the constructive comment! Thanks for dropping by!

Yeah, so what? If an adult wants to pop a Molly, they should be able to. It's a travesty that these young rich guys can't party on their own time. All that should matter is their performance on the team.

I agree, I'm going to talk to my bosses at the Dept. of Energy about this, what i do on my own time is none of their business as long as it doesn't impair my work performance. Should go over pretty well Right?

Sounds like you have a government job...you should be fine.

In my job, I was responsible for the lives of others. But I partied like a rock star on my off time. Still, doesn't mean it wasn't detectable...just not effective as per initial use.

I'm still not passing judgment 'til I hear all the facts. If I don't hear, I don't judge.

The whole drug debate is interseting. The NFL suspends 20 somethings that play a game for a living for using recreational drugs. Teachers responsible for our sons and daughters safety, well being and future don't have to take a drug tests.

Teachers are not being payed a yearly salary of hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars per year. The NFL is a corporation that makes a huge yearly profit for the owners and players. Educating our children is a pedestrian job that many more people can qualify to do. Doesn't mean there good at it, just that there are way more job openings for them than the NFL. Just the facts man. Way more grade school teachers turn out each year than 6' + cornerbacks that abuse some of the quickest / fastest people on the planet that also have the ability to out jump Olympian's & catch a ball consistently.

There are a select few that have the physical ability and mental ability to succeed and or excel at the professional level of football. Same goes for actors and musicians. We as common people don't like it, but should respect the talents the above mentioned gifted people have. No matter how we try most will not be able to do the physical things they can do. The NFL is the same as any other entertainment industry. We all watch and invest because it is the truest form of reality TV. It is also the closest "sport" to what entertained the Romans thousands of years ago.

Should smoking pot get you booted from your career? Only if it is well known you cant then do it anyway, several times. Good bye Browner and Thurmond. If they are to stupid to realize the consequences than good riddance. Maybe this changes their life for the better? Hard to fathom for us commoners, throwing away millions and the lime light for recreational drugs.

In a nutshell, the NFL is a huge corporation and has strict rules about conduct that protects the image of the corporation. If you don't like it then go find another career. My employer doesn't care if it's legal in the state to smoke pot, they random drug test and could fire me if I failed a test.

From what I understand, much like the PED scapegoat of Adderall, nobody every really says what the drug violation was specifically for. It's either PED or non-PED.

Maybe they are just unwinding with a J and playing video games at night, but when you are making hundreds of thousands of dollars and are young and single and going out at night, you are probably getting into some more serious sh*t.

I mean why should athletes have to abide by the law?

... I thought weed was legal in Washington? (it is almost certainly weed)

Most people are at their best when they are on meth. Pretty sure I saw Walt losing 2 Teeth when he tackled Adrian.

While your response was very well written it makes no sense to me at all. I use the same argument when people say "Athletes are over paid." I don't see how it translates to this topic, because it doesn't Imo. What do 40 times and drug tests have to do with one another?
