Defensive principles are looking totally pre-2022 so far.
This is what I came to comment on.
And this is a very good thing.
The Seahawks need to play their classic under/over 1 gap 'n go front.
This will fix their run defense by default as players don't have to think, they will not give up the big play because of how they play on the backend regardless of what they are doing upfront.
But of course the negative is they will get carved up underneath and give up a lot of cheap 3rd down conversions, that's the tradeoff--but this a much better alternative to having guys out of position, and getting gashed in the run game over and over like we saw last year.
Cleanup the tackling and they can be a 10-14 defense. Get elite consistent pass rush and they can be top 8.
We'll need to see what it like in the dress rehearsal game, but this bodes well for the Seahawks defense in 2023, as this was only a snippet. We're not out of the woods yet, not even close.
I still don't trust Hurtt, and watching the Seahawks defense underperform the last seven years with stooge D coordinators will lead to some form of underachieving, or blowing a play call in a crucial moment.

I'd honestly rather see them get their new scheme right than revert back to a defense that was solid against the run, but gave up free play after free play after free play for first downs over the middle... constantly.
If this is what theyre going to do, with an aging (aged) wagner and hobbled Brooks expected to hang with receivers dropping behind them on critical downs, we know how the story ends.
Sure, if they can get better pressure, maybe we can be at best, on par with the 'twilight years', LOB defenses (when theyd to a degree, been figured out) but the scheme HAS to evolve.

They could mitigate it a bit if they go to a bandit package, play with a 3rd Safety and keep Brooks/2nd LBer on the sideline on obvious passing downs. They have the personnel to do it. It's just a question if they will or not.

That's my hope- That the investment in a guy like Jamal from the beginning was a turn toward a solution that would take their tried and true concepts and add a wildcard that could erase its Achilles heal. When they added Love in the offseason I thought, 'ok... maybe' ; and certainly with the way they've gone about stacking the defensive backfield and DLine edge.
It would make sense when you look at the defensive moves they've made (and lack of them) on and off the field since acquiring Adams, that what you're talking about or something like it, is exactly what Pete has in mind.
They've been building to something like what they ll show this year, for 3 years now, but with Adam's injuries and personnel changes, they've been reactively cobbling together different ways to get at the solution, season to season. But the goal has been the same. They've been playing the long game on D, committed to arriving at THEIR solution, with the trials and tribulations of that commitment to process being the mixed bag (mostly not great) of results we've seen over the last few years.
