🏈 THE ORION REPORT

Week 12 – Seahawks 30, Titans 24
Nashville, Tennessee

OPENING TAKE

The Seahawks walked out of Nashville with a win but it wasn’t the kind of win that sends a message through the NFC.
Seattle controlled this game for long stretches, built multiple leads, and never really looked in danger but man, the defense let a desperate Titans team hang around way more than they should have.

This felt like one of those games where Seattle knew they were better, acted like they were better, and then played just loose enough to let the Titans believe they had a shot. Good teams win these games.
Great teams BURY them!!
Seattle didn’t bury anybody today.

THE TURNING POINT

Mid second quarter, tie game, nothing really happening until Sam Darnold uncorked the deep shot to JSN that broke everything open. The moment that ball hit his hands, Tennessee had to play Seattle honestly and the whole tone of the game shifted.

Seattle built a cushion from that play, and that cushion turned out to be the difference, because the defense leaked yards all afternoon.

NOTABLE PLAYERS

Jaxon Smith-Njigba The engine of the offense, again. He was the stabilizer when things felt flat and the spark when Seattle needed separation.
Sam Darnold Clean game, decisive throws, avoided the one big mistake that could’ve flipped momentum late.
Zach Charbonnet and kennith Walker III Hard running, tone setting, and the touchdown that felt like it should have iced the game.
The Defense Bend but way too much bend. Missed tackles, soft zones, and late game cushions that invited a comeback. Not panic worthy… but not playoff quality either.

STAT BOX
Category. SEA. TEN.

Total yards. 360 312

Pass yards. 244 265

Pass comp%. 62.1 65.4

Rush yards. 116 47

Turn overs. 0 0

T.O.P. 25:12 34:48

FINAL THOUGHTS

Seattle handled business, but not with the authority you’d expect from a team trying to climb into the NFC’s upper tier. Good win, yes. Road win, yes. Playoff teams must collect these.

But this wasn’t sharp.
This wasn’t complete.
And you can’t let teams with nothing to lose start feeling like they can hang with you. That’s how upsets happen in November.

Still a win is a win. JSN continues to look like a future All-Pro, Darnold keeps the offense on schedule, and the team is stacking victories.

But if Seattle wants to make noise in January, the defense has to tighten up and return to elite form.

Go Hawks

I agree playing just better then your competition in this situation can become a habit.

Now is that the weekly preparation, that's on the coach, the let down from the Rams game? Still on the Coach, he should be recognizing this and drive home after getting beat last week we can't take these guys lightly. Offense was better, but looked disinterested the second half. Defense seemed to go thru the motions in the back half.

Now is this design soft zone or soft mentality?

We had more points, but win the game, Titans showed more heart I thought. Their victory was they were able to hang with us.

I find it rather disturbing that JSN is the receiver, the only receiver. Thinking now, it might have hurt us in the LA game and I"m afraid it will hurt us in future games of importance. I see the Shaheed was target a whopping 2 times today, why is that? DO Shaheed and Sam have no chemistry?

We definitely needs to get Walker involved in the passing game...

💯 getting Walker more involved is crucial!! we’re gonna need that for the elite Defenses with dominant guys up front .

Probably because it would take the entire secondary to guard JSN. He's open, he's probably the first receiver Darnold looks towards on most plays, so it gets thrown to him. It worries me a bit too but it sure is fun to see him rack up the catches and yardage.

I'm looking forward to teams starting to quadruple team him and leave other receivers wide open. :p

Nice post! I only have a minor quibble with:
JSN continues to look like a future All-Pro
I think JSN looks like a current All-Pro. He will officially get the title after the season, but he is clearly the top player at his position in the entire league.

May I point out that 7 of those points by the Titans were the result of a Special Teams TD that shouldn't have happened?

Garbage TD in the end notwithstanding, this game was far from being close at all than what the final score indicated.

Defense actually held the Titans to 17 points (if we include the garbage TD and remove the Special Teams TD from the equation) so it should've been 30-17 Hawks.

JSN should highly be in the conversation not only All-Pro, but Offensive Player of the Year. If he sets the season receiving yards record this year, how can he not be the OPOY, or MVP?..

None of the QB's are having that truly standout year, and the only other offensive player that's having a standout season is Johnathan Taylor, but he isn't on a record breaking pace like JSN..

Also, MVP almost always goes to a QB, while the OPOY tends to go to a non-QB for that reason.

Stafford is having a fairly standout season. I watch every Rams game (one of the very few things in the negative column that comes with being married to @RedAlice) and Stafford is THAT QB right now. The Seahawks should get a fleet of those Therapeutic RVs that Stafford was using in the offseason for his back.

Damn. I'm sorry 😔. I thought I had it bad when my ex-wife would make me watch Project Runway with her.
