100k for Dashon Goldson and 42k for Bernard Pollard. I fully understand they want to prevent injuries, but I personally don't like it. Football is a rough and tumble contact sport. Part of being a good football player is being able to take the hits and keep on playing. Injuries will happen its part of the game. I rank this right up there with not keeping score at kids games. Its more pussification of America IMHO I will add that I didn't see either of the hits that these guys got fined for. My comment is about what evolution is doing to the GAME not these hits. I'm sure by letter of the rule the fines were justified.

If players stopped using their helmets to spear other players in the head, I'd agree with you. But in this case, the fines are well deserved. I felt no sympathy for Meriweather's injury because after 2 helmet to helmet hits, he deserved to be the one with the injury.

Like I said, I think the fines were probably justified by letter of rule. And I deff agree with you about hitting with your head. I have zero data to quote but I guess that 50/50 is the chance of hurting ones self as it is hurting the opposing player when you use your head as the weapon. I personally wouldn't do it. Risk not worth reward. I just don't care for the league changing the rules every time we turn around. It's the place I see "evolution" taking the game I don't like.

I agree with you that some of the rule changes are bizarre and useless (the spinning the ball taunting penaltyn and really, the addition of any celebration penalty.) When it comes to player safety and concussions, though, I tend to think that those penalties weren't enforced well enough previously rather than the opposite.

Also, the NFL is a business, and they'll continue to change the rules to make their businesses more profitable. A rule change that is not well received and may cause a drop in revenue will be deleted from the books. I guess I'm OK with that.

If the NFL or the players really cared they would use the gaint egg helmet that had an outside cushion. Its like cars, in the 50's it was steel frames then people learned that if you make crumple zones the force is reduced in transmission. Use the egg heads and the force is reduced less injuries.

I gotcha bro. And I understand the business side of some of the rule changes. Heck the players may even be asking for some of them. When I look back 20 years or so, and then look forward 20 years or so, I just like what I saw better than what is see coming. Just my opinion.

Just go back to no helmets or leather... that'll clear it up.

No more helmet to helmet, no more leading with the helmet, no more spearing, no more face mask.

And the fist fights would be much more entertaining.

The first really good solution I've heard yet.

Quit coming up with an actual workable solution.

Personally I feel not pity for players who get fined for leading with their helmets. Most of the guys who get fined I would consider dirty players who are trying to hurt other players.

Would no helmets improve the concussion issues? It would be interesting to see a study on head injuries in rugby compaired to football.

Have no sympathy to the players getting fines, after all people like Deon Sanders, and others are trying to get money on NFL still after the first settlement.

There is a fine line when it comes to rules. The helmet to helmet is reasonable, but I see calls of it that weren't, just because the ref was at the wrong angle. Any and all taunting and excessive celebration calls fall into the pussy category. Those are just as bad as the no score for kids games pmedic920 hit that one on the head.

Nope, I don't usually watch college football. Probably hurts too many feelings.

Why is it still ok to do the Lambo leap but spinning the ball is not? I think many don't have a problem with trying to protect players or even real taunting for that matter but the consistency is what see to ire people more than anything else.

The league will be fining for years until players coached to tackle with more pure from begin to enter the league, form tackleing has become a lost art and going back to that technique will greatly diminish the fines. Until then big fines will be the norm, I expect suspensions to become much more used also.
