I realize that the chances of winning the Superbowl with your backup QB are extremely small. It will probably only happen when you have the future starter on the bench (even if you sometimes don't know it). New England obviously comes to mind.

For Superbowl contenders such as GB and Seahawks what you need from the the backup QB (IMHO) is come in and go .500 or better in a four to six week stretch. Obviously strenght of schedule etc will come into play

What you can't have is the Bears the past two years just collapsing when Cutler got injured. Look at them now - McCown is showing that he can play football on the right team.

I get stricking out. Signing that backup QB that you think will be good and it turns out he isn't (Flynn). What I don't get is having someone that really shouldn't be in the league (period or anymore).

Seneca was a good QB and probably a great backup. The keyword is was. To put your team in a position where your whole season can go down the drain because of a four week injury to one player is stupid (again IMHO).

The Seahawks really set themselves up nicely. They brought back T-Jack that the organization knows and trust. He knows the coaches, other players and the town etc. He may not be a fit with other teams but this organization made a good decision on a guy that showed that he can go .500 with a worse team than he is on now. Hey it may not work out but at least on paper it pencils out.

Seneca Wallace doesn't pencil out on paper, in reality or even in thin air. I am really surprised that an organization like GB found themselves in that position yesterday. I realize that for some reason they felt that VY couldn't do it and I am surprised about it but still - that is the best they could come up with????

Thoughts?

Yeah agree. Thought about that last night that the one team that made out was Green Bay and now they can get him back for nothing and maybe he does fit in their system.

If they don't sign him then you know they always knew he would never be any good......

My thought is that Matt Flynn is going to be a Packer sooner rather than later.

Unless somebody *cough*Vikings*cough* claims him off the waiver wire before he gets to Green Bay.

My thought is that Matt Flynn will be retired sooner than later.

Gotta agree with this. If right now in a league with a dearth of good QBs and a rush on injured QBs, Flynn still made it through waivers after being cut by the Buffalo Bills of all teams, it's probably a good sign you need to hang 'em up because no one wants you.

Seneca still refuses to throw the ball away. I don't care what McCarthy says, he won't stick with Seneca for long.

This is why the league is radical about protecting the QB. IT is basically the one irreplaceable position on the team, and fora contender to lose their QB means they are not a contender anymore. The Bears got real lucky that their backup is playing as good as he is. But he is still a backup, and will come down to earth sooner rather than later.

If every team in the league had to play with their backup QB's for an entire season, who do you think comes out on top? This could be a thread in and of itself. I'm curious who people would pick to win.

That and the Bears don't really depend on stellar QB play.

He looked pretty good to me last night.

If we have an O-line I would put Seahawks up there

While the bears are looking good it is kind of 1 out of 3 for them considering the past two years

Sure he did.

1. He's relatively new (hadn't had a start since 2011 and not regularly since 2009) so there isn't a lot of recent tape on him.

2. The Bears for all their other faults have an O-Line that is the envy of the league. Could you imagine the damage Wilson could do behind the Bears O-Line?

Everybody knows Wilson can't throw from the pocket. He's too short.

Lol Bears o-line envy of the league? This is a joke right

The strength of that O-line is spelled Trestman. Ask Russell who knows

Whatever it is, they went from one of/the most sacked teams in the league last year to one of the least sacked teams this year. A huge part of that is they also got rid of everyone on the line besides Garza.

I dunno about that. The Bears line has looked pretty danged solid all season to me, and it wasn't like Green Bay (on Mon Night) wasn't trying to pressure because they most certainly were. I've also seen a few other Bears games at least in pieces. The Bear's o-line is really good. Their QB play even with Cutler? Well everyone here knows about that.

Exactly. This isn't the Bear's o-line from 2012....and the coaching of this new line looks pretty solid as well. I know as a 'hawks fan, I wish I had that line protecting Wilson right now.
