I think this is worthy of it's own thread with no back up qb on the roster.

What's Gordon's ceiling? Russ replacement, nfl starter trade bait, long term back up, back up until we get someone better or released after training camp? His highlights are as impressive as his stats but we know how the spread offense inflates talent and stats. I'm really intrigued by the pick up. What does everyone else think?

Also if Gordon isnt the guy who do you think will be clipboard holding for Russ? I'm assuming a vet will be added at some point.

I'm probably not the right person to answer these questions...there are better evaluators out there (Rob). That being said, I've watched football for 46 years, and my take is that Gordon has upside as a long term backup, spot-starter. Adequate arm strength but has precision accuracy and very nice touch on his passes...IMO he has accuracy and touch like Rivers, but a better arm. He lacks ideal size...but has solid footwork, and good decision-making. Has a little swagger to his game. Will throw from strange angles...probably comes from his baseball background (remind you of Russ?).

I would love to see him stick as a long term backup QB. The Hawks will bring in another "vet" or two if/when camp is announced. I think Gordon has serious value in the NFL with his accuracy, footwork, and head. I think he becomes the type of backup NFL QB that teams covet (a la Colt McCoy, etc.). I saw some evaluators placing him between rounds 3-6. His Air Raid career dropped his value, IMO...and not having the arm that The Stache possessed kept teams away.

Actually intrigued and excited to see him play.

Surprised he didn't get drafted. As mentioned before, he seems to process really quickly. Has good feet, but lacks ideal size. His release is lightning quick and is exceptionally accurate. He has a lot of traits that should translate well at the next level. It'll really depend on how he survives drinking from the fire hose that is the NFL learning curve for QBs.

As one of the resident Coug's on here I'll chime in.

First of all, kid's tough, gritty and a gamer. He transferred to WSU from a Juco in SF, sat behind record setter Luke Falk, then sat behind the Mustache and finally beat out another transfer (Gage Gubrud) to play his Sr. year. Something about a kid sticking it out and earning a job and not transferring back out.

Mike Leach values accuracy above all else, so he has great pin point accuracy. His arm is stronger than past WSU Leach Qb's.

He takes more chances which is why his INT number is higher, but he also HAD to last year cause our Defense was atrocious. Threw 9 TDs in one game, and LOST!!! D was really bad last year.

He has a really really quick release. Talking heads were saying it was the quickest in the draft.

He had a pretty good Sr. Bowl (actually out played Herbert who got the games mvp award)

He's got a little moxy to him.

Will he make the roster? Who knows.... The hawks have kept an undrafted guy as a backup to Russ before. But they may also want to bring in a vet.

I just know I'm excited to see Gordo in hawks blue.

His ceiling? Brady. Montana. Warner. Dave Krieg. Kirk Cousins. OK, maybe Jake Plummer, Jeff Garcia.
His floor? Never playing a down, being released.

Maybe it was the lower talent level of the 2019 Cougars team, but Gordon just didn't quite have the "it" factor that Minshew did. Small things, where Minshew would sense pressure and move just in time to avoid it, Gordon would fail to sense it and get hit and fumble. Minshew would consistently make multiple magical plays in a row to protect a lead and keep the God-awful WSU Cougar defense off the field. Gordon would would make two of them, and fail on the third.

Still, Gordon will continue to develop, and given his quick release and accuracy, I think he has a decent shot to become a starting NFL QB at some point in his career, if he makes a roster in year 1, preferably the Hawks.

Gordon did make a TON of plays his senior year, it just wasn't enough to cover for the awful Cougar D.

If he fixes his feet, which is a big if, he could fetch us a high pick in a trade. Love how quick he processes the game and the throws he can make.

I also worry about whether or not he will survive the roster churn. Alex McGough was an interesting prospect that Seattle couldn’t hold on to. Hope Gordon sticks. We haven’t had a young QB that can develop since Boykin.
