With the need to add some defensive linemen, street FAs might not be as viable of an option as years past. There’s been talk of bringing in Bennett or Mathews. There are a few other guys that could be options too. The problem this year is the Covid protocols. Even if you sign a guy it might be two weeks before you can use him. Once he goes through the testing and then the quarantine, he can start practicing with the team. If Pete and John were going to sign a replacement for Irvin there is no way he plays this Sunday. Even if they had signed a guy Monday, he wouldn’t have been available for this game. This is the reason that practice squads were expanded. In years past you could snag a guy off another teams practice squad to your team as long as he was signed to the active roster. Not sure how that rule works now.

So any hopes and dreams of street FAs joining this team probably wouldn’t start to reap benefits for at least 2-3 weeks at the minimum after factoring in testing, quarantine, conditioning and general game readiness.

My 5 year old granddaughter had it right when she said, “coronavirus is ruining my life”!

We have Irvin's replacements: Barwin, Brooks at SAM, Green, Robinson at DE. Just because they are unproven doesn't mean they aren't better than some old guy off the street.

It is what it is. This year more than any other you are going to rely on your PS and depth.

Ra'Shede Hageman is my choice. He's got the talent, but has been a troubled man, and hasn't put in the time to become a great player.

Legal problems behind him, ‘humbled’ Ra’Shede Hageman hoping for another NFL shot

Hageman said Wednesday “it sucks” having been out of the NFL. He has been in living in Fridley and working out regularly.

“It’s been one heck of a two years sitting out and just watching my fellow teammates play, but it’s definitely a learning experience,” Hageman told the Pioneer Press while attending Minnesota’s Pro Day. “The whole process is just getting back in everybody’s ear (with NFL teams) about me staying out of trouble. You can’t beat around the bush. They obviously want to see consistency with me. I’m letting everybody know that my past is my past.”

Hageman has recorded a 36-inch vertical jump and clocked an astonishing 1.57-second 10-yard split in the 40-yard dash. Factor in his reported 465-pound bench press, and Hageman will be expected to rank among the top performers at the NFL Scouting Combine in a few months.

For context, J.J. Watt recorded a 37-inch vertical and blazed a 4.84-second 40-yard dash (1.64 split at the 10-yard mark) at the 2011 NFL Scouting Combine. Those numbers made him one of the top performers at the event; it set the stage for him to emerge as the 2012 Defensive Player of the Year.
