Steelers signed Nick Herbig to a 4-year, $100 million deal. That means they are now paying TJ Watt $41 million per year, Alex Highsmith $17 million and Herbig $25 million--$83 million for 3 players. That's a lot of money at the edge rusher position. Especially for a pretty mediocre defense.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks are paying DeMarcus Lawrence, Derick Hall, Uchenna Nwosu and Dante Fowler a combined $48 million per year.

Yah, but the entire Offense is $20 each and free ayahuasca at Aaron's house on off days....so it kinda works out.

Extension numbers aren't average per year numbers. Watt has a 3-year $96M contract. The Steelers have a further 1-year option at $32M. Smith-Njigba has a 2-year $69.1M contract. The Seahawks have a 3rd year option at $19.9M, which would make for a 3-year average at below $30M. The Seahawks also have further option years. Headline numbers are there purely to generate headlines.
