Mariners new owner still against the arena, I really hate those people.
I think that was not throwing Lincoln under the bus. The new owner is a former minority owner of the Sonics. I bet his attitude "magically" changes once Lincoln is completely gone in August.
Why would you think this?
Stanton now has an even BIGGER reason to not want the new arena, he's an owner of the Mariners. His first priority is not to be sympathetic to a team he used to partially own, it's to do what's in the best interest of the M's..............and that's to toe the company line of not wanting the competition.
If the Mariners win on the field they won't have to worry about competition.
Go back and look at the M's league leading attendance numbers when they were winning on a consistent basis. I believe this new guy realizes this, but time will tell.
He claims to be a lifelong Seattle sports fan, I believe that. The Mariners in owning Root sports, could very well profit handsomely off of one or both new teams if they can carry their games on Root.
I've heard from many unconfirmed sources that the anti-arena thing is mainly a Howard Lincoln thing.
That is not saying others in the Mariners org don't have "some" concern over how a new arena would play out, they just are not so dead set against it and would be willing to work with the new teams (see the scheduling issue resolved up thread).
I'm willing to bet the Mariners org will kick up a lot less dust over the arena issue and the port and times will be left blowing in the wind. Just my opinion of course. Time will tell if my opinion is right or wrong on this.
