Almost as if the officials were operating under the assumption that unless your not sure... err to the side of it being illegal.
I believe that's the way they see it, as messed up as it is. Operating under such procedure, this should be a reviewable assumption. That's more commercials and more interrupted play though.

I'm a bit worried, too.

Bobby Wagner got penalized yesterday for the exact same thing Kam Chancellor did to Vernon Davis last year. Hitting a guy hard in the chest with text book form.

Kearly's right. The league is going crazy about limiting certain types of plays. And it seems as if the Hawks are in the cross hairs even if they follow the rule book by the letter simply because they hit so hard. That's something that worries me. Procedural penalties, I don't mind. Because they can be fixed on our end. Refs being paranoid about how hard our guys hit the other team, that sucks. Because our guys stand to be punished for doing no wrong, or will end up holding back in fear of flags. Not good.

This is exactly what concerns me. Not just as a Hawk fan, but as a fan of this (once) great sport. The "certain types of plays" they are trying to take away are the WOW plays. The officials will soon just base their calls on the reaction of the fans. A BIG WOW gets the big 15. It's pure BS, and because of the impact of such a penalty, these penalties should (at least) be allowed to be challenged. IMO, it's damn near the equivalent of a ref blowing the whistle every time a B'ball player slam dunks.

The owners are allowed to charge a crazy amount of money for seats because of the great entertainment their product provides. I was less than entertained watching that crap Friday night. IF they want to reduce the WOW factor of the game...ticket prices should be less WOW as well.

Just like ANY year, the Seahawks must overcome the worst travel schedule, AND outplay the opponent, and the refs too

Hawks against the world. That's the way I like it.

Last year we started terrible with penalties too. Got better. Odd as it is, the play hard penalties don't bother me. The procedural ones drive me nuts. C'mon Okung. You are better than that.
Yeah. I am willing to cut our rookies a ton of slack, especially in the preseason, as they try to adapt to NFL officiating and get a feel for what they can and cannot get away with. I thought most of the punting/kickoff penalties fell into this category.

Our veterans already know the drill and we should expect more from them. At one point towards the end of last season I remember reading that Okung was the 4th most penalized player in the NFL. I don't think we can afford to shoot ourselves in the foot this season with all of our 10 am road games.
