Bro just swooped in and stole Geno, DK, and Lock all in one week.

I suspect that Pete sold the idea of Geno Smith to Davis and Brady during his interview, but that plan was sidetracked when Stafford became available. When Stafford re-signed with Rams, Schneider and the Raiders resumed or started talking.
  • The deal from Schneider was Geno and DK for Crosby, but Brady said NO.
  • Somehow, Schneider's offer leaked to Geno and DK.
  • When Schneider's deal was rejected, Schneider offered $35mil to Geno.
  • Knowing the Raiders want him, Geno rejected the offer and asked for a trade, in private.
  • Somehow, Geno's ask for trade was leaked to DK. In response, DK also requested trade and made that public.
Poor Macdonald. he joined a team with 9-8 record and an offense already in place.

Pure speculation, under the influence of 3/4 bottle of Prosecco.

Well most of that is known now except the last one. But I was wondering if that might have been the case myself.

PC just outplayed JS on this one. PC has a better potential GM with Spytek now and Brady as an advisor.

Spytek observed for many years Licht build up the Bucs trenches with players like Gholston, Vea, Marpet, Wirfs, Jenkins, etc.

Raiders focus on shoring up some of their trenches and add some skill positions and they are going to fly under the radar as a sneaky good team.

Brady is the boss, not an advisor?

Spytek is the GM so Brady's role is more as an advisor even though he has a stake to the team. Brady will provide input to PC and Spytek but I think Brady trusts them to be able to make decisions too.

Always comPete knew that Geno was the best bridge QB on the market. Franchise QBs don't grow on trees, and he got the best non-franchise QB available, who is a stable veteran presence that can help him set the culture. Starting with a rookie QB would have been a bad move.

It will be interesting to see what Chip Kelly does with Geno. Geno is still great between the 20s. Between Pete's Jedi zen moves on Geno, and Kelly's scheme, perhaps improving on redzone, Geno may have a resurgent year there. It was a good move for the Raiders.

Kelly has improved with more play calling balance as an OC now and playing better with TOP. PC also will help guide the team play more complimentary football too.

The Raiders have weapons on offense but they can add more and really shore up those trenches.

On their offense, they badly need skill position players especially RBs and WRs.

Drafting a RB that fits into Kelly's offense will not be difficult. Meyers is a solid #2 WR though and they have a collection of WRs that are okay but not great as backups. They do need a true #1 WR but that is not that pressing when they have the sensational Bowers at TE. Upgrading interior OL to go with Jackson-Powers would go a long way too.

Kelly would rather run the ball. Pete would rather run the ball. Geno is good when he hands off and isn’t asked to win games.

Cool let the Raiders go into the perpetual 9-8 mode for a few years. I prefer to rebuild with a shot at a legit contender.
I have a bud who always sneezes at friends living in country clubs and driving Mercedes. To him, those friends are just perpetual upper middle class. Instead, he buys Lotto every week and is always prepared for life in legit fast lanes.

I didn't make this up cause I love him to death.

An organization that has Tom Brady calling shots in the FO and famed quarterback whisperers at HC AND OC gave Geno a ringing endorsement by snagging him and planning on paying him.

That's validating enough in my mind that some people see what I (and most of the film community) see with Geno Smith.
