I've seen a lot of people ranking him high, with the only caveat being that he's only started 15 games. I think the only QB ever to start in the NFL after only one season in college and succeed was Joe Burrow.
Burrow started 28 (25-3) games and showed up in 38 games throughout his career though

I've never rated him and he has small hands. Couldn't beat out Milroe either

I only saw one Alabama game this year, but I was surprised by Ty Simpson's athleticism and his big arm. I thought he ran pretty well, although he's apparently not that fast. The results at the end of the season weren't that great, but this was not your typical Alabama team this year, and Simpson had some injury and health issues.

Highlights:

The more QBs drafted before 32 the better. Start the bandwagon!

Just watching this clip I didn't see a single throw that wasn't to an already open receiver. He's going to struggle mightily in the pros if he waits to see if guys get open before throwing the football.

The knock on Simpson is that he doesn't know how to throw with anticipation, to "throw someone open." But is it his fault in the highlights that his receivers were always open, lol?

Lack of anticipation is a real problem in the NFL. It translates into “stares down his receivers” and “holds on to the ball too long”. Open receivers don’t stay open in the pros too, a handful of those highlight completions will be interceptions at the next level.

Isn't that what Drake Maye was doing in the Super Bowl? (per Julian Love "He hits his back foot then looks to make sure the receiver is open.")

In most years Mendoza probably isnt even a first round pick, at least a high end one
I dont' know, I just saw the Oregon game and his passes were on a dime with some of the tightest spirals, maybe it was just the opponent,

I watch a lot of SEC games including Bama. Simpson played well against lesser teams not well vs better teams. I think he is overrated and wouldn’t draft him until Rds 2 or 3
Well I hope he’s available still at 32. I have a feeling the jets would be willing to trade up to get him. Then we could land their 2nd and possible another 3

I love how people state Ty did X and X against X type of team in the SEC.

Indiana played literally no one all year except for the last game of the regular season and the playoffs.. and when they played ranked teams in the big games that defense won it for them... not the sub 200 passing yard a game QB.

I personally think he's overrated, but time will tell.

So what's your opinion of Ty Simpson? I can't tell if you like him or don't.

I get what you're saying about Fernando Mendoza. You can't tell if he's great or just had one great year playing for Curt Cignetti and that he was the beneficiary of playing on a great team with a great system. But it's a little unfair to say that Indiana didn't play anyone. They are in the Big Ten, and they had 6 games against ranked teams, including playing Oregon twice. And Mendoza did throw for 3500 yards and 41 TDs. But I agree with you that I'd be really nervous if I had the number one pick and Mendoza was my only choice at QB.
