1st, to be clear…I don’t see this team as a clone. I much prefer Macdonalds coaching style and think he and JS’s working relationship allow JS to execute his strengths better.

The similarities on slow starts, opportunistic TO’s, the general confidence that they are never out of a game, and slow build of national respect with persistent questions are eerily similar.

Several posters stated last year how similar the season felt like 2012…building to 2013. We made the playoffs in 2012, but finished with 10 W’s in 2024. The confidence for the next season just felt the same. Tougher division in 2025 and still haven’t secured the 1 seed…but trending the right direction.

Good time to be a hawks fan!!!

I kind of felt we were like the second half of 2012 and first half of 2013. We were smoking people early. Now we are just gutting the wins out. 13 wins baby!

I get the similarities.

I felt edge rushing and safety play was superior on the 2012-2103 Hawks while I think interior D line play is better on the current team.

The big difference was Marshawn. A feature back who ran forward without pausing for a sandwich first.

That’s said, I really liked what Charbs did today.

Yea…the teams aren’t the same…talking more about the similar feeling overall.

We don’t have an Earl or Cam, but our safety’s are still pretty damn good and deep.

Same for DE’s…maybe a 1/2 notch lower, but still damn good and better depth.

Would love to have the confidence in our run game we had back then.

The RW haters will hate this, but QB is the biggest difference between the 2 teams (especially the resultant difference in giveaways). Without the current turnover situation, the Seahawks would be a lock for Super Bowl favorite.

Pre fat/cosmic ego/entitlement, almost all of us were Russ fans.

But even then, Russ had his issues. Overthrows, 10+ yd sacks, etc.

Darnold has 13 ints. League avg for a qb is 10. Farve and Allen both had int issues. Not saying Darnold is either of those guys, but I think he gets knocked harder than a few others b/c of how he’s handled those in the past (“ghosts”).

Dude won us 13 games and pole position for #1 seed. Looking forward to see how he performs in playoffs this year.

This is true and Russ did have Marshawn Lynch and Darnold definitely doesn't have that.

If Sam never said "I see ghosts" on live TV, he would've been treated like any other QB looking to improve.

But because he "dared" to say apparently what is considered the "quiet part out loud" (as if it's taboo), he's being treated like he committed a crime or something and has been paying for it every year since.

We also had a better quarterback who didn’t turn the ball over much at all.

Not sure I'd agree that Russ was a better QB if you're considering ints...he had 4 against the packers in the NFC championship and possibly the most famous in NFL history that lost the SB. No question Russ was better avoiding pressure. If given time and a clean pocket, Darnold is a more effective passer.

I'm going to agree with you but not for the reason you're probably thinking. :)

Russ and the read-option scheme were the biggest difference between these teams. Our offensive line wasn't great in 2013, kind of like now. But they manufactured rushing yards because defenses weren't sure who was getting the ball on rushing downs. Russ had a good chunk of rushing yards. Of course, he also had the prettiest deep ball ever, and a HOF caliber RB.

I’ll give you that. Clean pocket, Sam is way more efficient than Russ and I think that’s because of the height differential. Russ was barely 5’11. Shorter QBs have a hard time seeing over their O linemen. It was always his fatal flaw IMO. That’s why he always ran out of the pocket unnecessarily.

True story . I really didn't notice it when they were winning haha
