Depends on the money. He's serviceable.

Could you say the reason for that is because of Cable and false promises of making linemen out of scrubs?

Just take the comp pick, roll with Fant/Jones/Wheeler/cheap FA with upside, and look for an OT in the 1st or 2nd rd that could eventually move over to LT to replace Brown in a couple seasons.
So let Britt and Ifedi go then try to draft an OT and C with two of the three picks in the first two rounds.
I'd be satisfied if they're able to secure any three of DE/OT/C/CB with the first three picks, assuming they re-sign Clowney and Reed while letting Ifedi and Britt go.Mad Dog":3urih33q said:I guess but we are going to need edge rushers, DT, CB depth in the draft too.
There are no cheap FA OL with upside. Ifedi would likely be the closest thing. Any OL with upside is getting a big contract these days because of their rarity. Every time we go with cheap FA on the OL, they've stunk the joint out.
Continuity to me is a key feature of OL building. Dumping every average OL after their rookie deal has not been working very well for us, so why continue that trend. Why note try something different and at least offer a guy a market representative deal.

I know but I also think it's been a mistake with guys like Carpenter and Okung.
We've ended up paying more money in the long run for rental scrubs like Joeckl and Webb.
I think in the end we won't pay Ifedi because I'm not sure he brings the leadership component Seattle likes in their second contract players. Certainly Avril has been critical of Ifedi's entitlement attitude at times.

They were able to get a cheap OT with upside in Chad Wheeler last month. Spending 2 min looking at the FA list, maybe guys like Brandon Shell, Jerald Hawkins, David Sharpe, Le'Raven Clark ect can be that guy to bring in as even more depth to compete next training camp with Fant, Jones, Wheeler and a high draft pick.
The Seahawks finished top 4 in the NFL in total yards the season after Carpenter and Unger left, then slipped down to 12th the next season in 2016 after Okung left. But pretty sure you can't compare Ifedi to Okung and Unger's production. Okung and Unger were likely only let go because of their injury problems.

That was Lynch's final season here when he was injured and past his prime. When Rawls took over.Mad Dog":2q112eor said:And I'm not sure "total yards" is a sign of OL proficiency. Wilson and Lynch had significant abilities to produce behind deficient blocking and are probably the biggest reason we succeeded in those days.
