Also, I'm glad it took place at 4:00 am as the roads are fairly clear and I didn't hit anyone else. Survivor's guilt is a real thing. The crazy thing is I should've died according to Doctors. They opened up my lower cavity I was was pooling blood. I'm a fairly in shape 56 year old 52 at the time but they had to start flooding my system with infusion. They sealed off the artery and then induced me in to a coma and started working on my fractures. Woke up 4 days later trying to fight the male nurse on duty thinking I was abducted. Thank God my sister and her husband were sitting there staring at me. They told me what happened and then of course it all came back to me. Scary ordeal for sure. I think I might've went to hell for 20 minutes idk. Started charging my lifestyle immediately including the most important is rest between shifts and a proper diet. Started reading the Bible as well. It's as if God is telling me time to retire and take stock in my blessings. Be humble and treat people with dignity and respect (unless you're trash talking lol)

Operating a motor vehicle on public roads is a responsibility that most of us grow complacent to.

Please be alert and safe while on the road. Someone needs you.

Amen Brother. I used to get CPR/First Aid training from a friend of mine who was an EMT, and he dealt with some terrible accidents.

I keep tabs on my driving at all times, use my cruise control to maintain speed, and I LOVE my auto distancing and auto braking on my car.

That headline from Florio is SOOO disingenuous. Especially since he's spent the last several days complaining about media integrity.

The police report came out and that's what he's referring to. The headline is clickbait.

1) Yes he was holding his phone. The police couldn't have known that though unless he had told them.
2) The OTHER driver (21 year old female in SUV, uninjured) veered into his lane and hit him head-on.
3) She was listed in the police report as being at fault.

This is why I hate media. They only report what gets the clicks. THIS is what's wrong with journalism, not that the incident wasn't immediately reported.

Kyle admitted fault about 5 minutes ago via Grant Cohn. It was killing Kyle that the other person was labeled falsely at fault. Kyle dropped his phone, veered into the other lane and hit the driver

While I've considered myself an alert and careful driver and have never been in an at-fault accident in my many years of driving, an increasing trend has prompted me to be even more alert in certain situations: the prevalence of accident clips shared by others on social media, thanks to the ubiquitous nature of dash cams and other types of cameras on cars (and other places) these days.

While most posters post accident clips to get clicks, many of them are educational in demonstrating how easy it is for an unobservant or inattentive driver to cause an accident, and how certain specific situations and locations require a particular kind of vigilance on top of a minimum level of alertness.

This of course doesn't guarantee that I'll always avoid an accident, but it definitely heightens my awareness of all sorts of things that COULD be dangerous and COULD happen. I think exposure to accident clips -- especially those that show how the dangerous situation developed -- is a good thing as long as the person uses them as informative and educational. As opposed to becoming fearful or paranoid behind the wheel.

Those YouTube crash videos are really an advanced driver training course.

An example. If there is a long line of stopped oncoming vehicle traffic and someone “lets you in”, decline the offer.

One of the scariest videos out there shows Driver A tailgating Driver B at high speeds on the freeway -- almost always in the passing lane. Driver B suddenly, and at the very last split-second, changes lane to the right, and BAM! Driver A horrifically rear-ends slow or stopped traffic in the passing lane that he had no clue was there due to obsessive tailgating of Driver B. In many cases the accident appears to have been intentionally baited by Driver B, as if to punish Driver A for tailgating.

Either way, those vids are a hell of a wake-up call for anyone who ever engages in aggressive tailgating.

Yes, there is something worse. I recall back in the mid-80s when I lived in SoCal (Vista CA, which is just south of Camp Pendelton in San Diego County). CA Hwy 78 between Oceanside and Escondiido was 25 miles of hell due to only having 2 lanes each way, so 1 asshole in the left lane could cause a 25-mile backup (and did, every single day). In the lead-up to adding a third lane each way, the Escondido newspaper had an interview with one of the local CHP officers. In that iinterview, he specifically called out what he called "amateur traffic cops" and told them to get out of the way and into the right lane because they were causing traffic hazards. And he didn't care if they were "doing the speed limit". He's right, those who get in the left lane in order to try and regulate the behavior of others are asshats who cause accidents. And anyone who decides to punish a tailgater by jumping out of the left lane at the last second in order to cause an accident should be held liable for all damages to all cars and people who get injured due to their ass-hattery.
