All of a sudden this Sounder thread devolved into crap.....All folks should be given the ability to have a good time at games in a manner that doesn't impact negatively to others. With that said, what Seabhac is asking is not unreasonable. He has a vaild point. I pay to watch a game not some guys/gals waving flags and singing songs. If I wanted to hear music I would have gone to a concert.

No where have i dismissed the validity of their claims. I've simply mentioned that what the ECS does is not changing, and it would be easier to remove yourself from the "problem" than the "problem" change. If you contact your ticket rep I'm sure they can assist you in moving your seats to an area not affected by flags.

I'm happy you pay to watch the game. I'm glad thats how you chose to enjoy the sport. However there are others who wish to enjoy it another way, and we have to accommodate those people as well. There are 3 sections in the entire stadium where the ECS can put up their flags, and they will continue to do so....there are hundreds of other sections available to fit other styles.

Well, then the threads I've read must be 100% discredited. I read quite a bit from people in the UK and Brazil watching MLS and discussing how it differs from major leagues around the world.

The world is watching, whether you care to admit it or not.

I guess we're arguing semantics, you think "the world" means a couple dozen soccer fans you see on soccer websites discussing MLS, and I think "the world" means hundreds of thousands to millions.

But this is not the first time ECS members took themselves far too seriously. Here's something I can guarantee you, no one, and I mean NO ONE outside of ECS members gave a rat's ass about song sheets being handed out for singing at an away game on a deep cable sports station where only 200k viewers watched, none of which except for ECS members watching at home cared.

As a Sounders fan, I love the ECS and what it has done for the Puget Sound soccer community, but holy moly do you guys take yourselves too seriously sometimes. It's a sport, it's suppose to be fun.

I think Seabhacs earlier reply disputes this, and I agree. "The World" is beginning to notice MLS and some are even taking an interest in the league.

Too seriously? Maybe. I guess. The way I see it is: "Yes, we, the ECS, understand your dislike of large flags. But we are encouraged by the Sounders organization to use them (there are even limited visibility signs outside every section in the area). So we will continue to do so...including during the run of play. There are thousands of other seats where your vision will not be limited.

If that's too serious, then sure. we are. We just want to support our club the way we support our club.

Personally, I'm there to support. I'm there to wave a flag, jump like a crazy person, clap, sing and have a good time. Is it organic? Occasionally. Lots of songs are started elsewhere and then picked up by a capo...but sure, lots of it isn't. Doesn't bother me. As for the song cards...well they are for the newbies. People sitting in the GA for the first time and want to be join in, but don't know how. Song cards help with that. If you wan't to join us, go for it. Lets have some fun. I'll help ya learn the songs, and even buy you a beer. Done it for others.

I'm there to support my club and have fun. That's it. I just figured I would come in here and try and save some peoples breathes about the whole flag thing. It's been 6 years and the complaints still come in. I imagine they will for the next 6, 10, 20 years too. I'm not trying to convince anyone that the ECS is the best in the world, or that our way of supporting is the right way or any of that. The group as a whole does some things that piss me off too...believe it or not...

Smurf - I know the songs already but thanks for the offer. I may take you up on the beer.
Waving the big flag during the run of play is wrong - it's anti-fan - No two ways about it. Its an "only in the MLS" thing - I know that the ECS wants a big show and wants to "front the Club " for all to see. But any club in Europe that uses these big flags- ONLY uses them during the breaks or when their team scores. Certainly not when there is something exciting on the pitch. If they waved that big flag on Kop or Stretford end (or Frenabache Olympiakos or Galatasaray for that matter) - there would be blood.

I love flags and banners. But to wave the two huge flags when Dempsey or Oba are closing in on Goal making it so four or five hundred people can't see the action is just plain selfish.

Song cards are a comparatively minor issue.

ALL that being said.....I love the ECS and the game day atmosphere. It's something I thought I never would experience

Liverpool and Galatasaray are not the sounders, and we conduct our support differently. This isn't Europe....and while some aspects of our style of support come from Europe, others do not. Some of its from south america, a little from asia....

I'm sorry you feel that the flags are selfish. I disagree, obviously....but clearly no headway is going to occur in this thread. If you continue to have issues with the flags, I suggest you contact your ticket rep and see if they can move you to a more suitable location.

Again, I apologize if that seem harsh, but its been 6 years.

I do appreciate the fact that you enjoy the atmosphere the ECS produces for our home games. Means a lot.

So the Sounders are pretty much the number one team in MLS right now.

Lots of strong teams are really struggling right now.

My season tix are right next to the ECS, so I often hear new ticket holders or people who bought tix just for that one match complaining about the ECS standing, flags, the noise, etc.

It's pretty simple for me, the ECS is a huge part of the matches, so if you don't like it, sit somewhere else.

As far as how hardcore the ECS is, and as you call them "newbies" needing song sheets..........I think it's shortsighted to show any disdain for people trying to be the best fans they can be by joining the ECS members on the road. Those are potential future ECS members who can only help the organization grow and become even more powerful. So to show disdain towards them like they're doing something wrong is pretty lame.

no one needs a song card, but it is a helpful aid when learning the songs. I don't show disdain for anyone who needs to use one. Hell, when I learned the songs I used one.

You'll get no argument from me. That sure is how other places in the world do it. Cool pics.

I'm not in charge of when the flags get waved, but thanks for you interest in the subject.

Thought Ozzy and Marshall were poor today :(. Columbus had a lot of great chances and we seemed to constantly back off Higuain. Dempsey played well though.

The midfield was pretty bad this game. Actually, the entire team was pretty bad with the exception of Oba, Clint and Frei.

No excuses, but there was an article in the New Tribune today about what nightmare travel day the Sounders had getting into Columbus, delays, etc.

Sigi said by far Columbus and Montreal are the worst places for them to travel because there's no direct flights and always seems to be a delay or plane having mechanical issues. Again, poor excuse, but it definitely could have had an effect on the team's energy and how flat they looked.

Bayern have flags up during the run of play today...

You mean 5 idiots were waving giant flags behind the goal as Barcelona were scoring...

Where it occurs matters so much less than when it does.

I saw that and couldn't believe it. Totally unfazed by what was going on on the pitch. Barcelona score - Keep waving. Bayern score - keep waving. You've just been eliminated - keep waving.

"See the happy moron...."

I don't get it.

Just scored - Happy, lets wave flags
Just scored on - Well crap, lets support our boys and go get us a goal
No score - Lets push the lads on to victory.

Different ways of support for different people. None of them are right, and none of them are wrong.

Your rationale is both ignorant of your surroundings and shockingly naive. Blocking other peoples views is completely wrong..

Did you notice it was right behind the goals only?

Morons...they looked like cheerleaders.. Not supporters.

Is this how the hipsters do it? Nouveau riche "football supporters/crews/outfits/ultras"

Where do you think the ECS sits? cause we only do it behind the goals.

You can interpret my rationale however you wish. But that's the way its done in Seattle.

Supporters, ultras, crews, outfits, cheerleaders....I don't care what we're called....I'm there for my team and to push them towards victory.
