On a related topic, I think we need to pull the trigger on Yandy Diaz, if only to keep him away from the Astros and Rangers, who are also pursuing him.

Randy and Yandy. They should have come together in the first place.

Weird how it's almost a whole 'nother team now compared to opening day roster, and especially since the final game of last season. Yes, we still have a few of the same guys, but we sure have a lot of new faces too. Guess that's a good thing if many of the old faces were struggling to get the job done.

Contract wise it makes sense too. You'd have Randy and Yandy both for 2 years and they aren't getting paid a ton. Youwouldnt trade away your top top guys either. Vladdy or Rooker on the other hand would take a starter and top prospects. They should go after a star 1st baseman or 3rd baseman. Yandy wouldn't be a star but he fills a hole and wouldnt be a long term thing anyway. When Julio comes back the outfield looks respectable. They're stuck at SS with JP for few more years. Nobody is going to want to pick up his contract. Don't think they would DFA him anyway. So assuming Polanco and his bum knee continue hitting, they would just need one more infielder to even think about having a respectable offense.

Another thing about Vladdy is if you trade for him you would also need to pay him after this season. If the M's don't want to go mega contract then they could pay him in his arbitration year then let another team sign him the following year. So they would have Vladdy for the rest of this year and next year at the very least. Why not? You have the pitching.
Vladdy making $20 mill this year, season is over half way over he probably has around 8 more mill to make this year. Next year in his arb year he would want at least $20 mill. Lets say it ends up becoming rent Vladdy for $30 million for a year and a half. I'd do it. No mega contract and the time to win the division is now.

Almost exact same situation with Rooker, except he's wayyy cheaper than Vladdy. Rooker is only going to make like $250k the rest of the year. Pay that then give him a nice one time paycheck during his arb year. They don't NEED to sign these guys long term.

Taking 2 of 3 from a surprisingly good Red Sox team would be huge. I have a few friends who are huge Sox fans, and they are even surprised at how well Boston has played this year. Expectations were low.

This series has Wildcard implications too, Bo Sox are just ahead of us in the standings. Should be a battle.

Well, Randy and Cal are staying hot. Turner will bring a nice veteran presence.
