Seahawks's O-Line Vs. Pot Roast

I was thinking that on every designed roll-out/boot leg the Seahawk's O-Line should not block Terrance Knighton (6-2, 335) and have their 5/6 O-Line guys focus on the 3 other DL and LBers who are spying.

This method will not only put Knighton 1 on 1 with Russell Wilson, a match-up #3 would win every time and tire out Knighton quick with the fat cat and mouse game (especially considering him and his back-up are a little banged up with knee injuries).

The Seahawks will also get some bodies on their somewhat undersized LBers, which will also wear them down.

Mix in our ultra physical running game, the Broncos D won't have any gas left in the tank by the 3rd QTR to finish out the game and they can be scored on in bunches.

Also, this would be the perfect game for Bevell to dial in on the short passing game while giving Wilson read-option opportunities mixed in with well-designed runs for Lynch. Get minimal yardage but enough to move the chains, keep Denver's strength off the field while keeping Denver's weakness on the field. If they can do that in the first half while keeping the scores close.... Seahawks will easily dominant the 2nd Half.

For as much as I've heard about this guy is he as good as Justin Smith and the like that Seattle has already faced?

It's key for the Seahawks to continue their savvy of in-game adjustments. We can't predict how effective this guy will be - but what we can do is minimize his impact by working around the situation. I like the OP's original idea - but something tells me we will have a strategy no matter what happens with their D.

Do you remember sniveling John Elway's first Super Bowl victory? There was a huge dude on the Packers' D-Line Gilbert "Gravedigger" Brown. Well, by about the third quarter of that game, 'ole Gravedigger was sucking wind from chasing Terrell Davis and dealing with Denver's then-newfangled zone blocking scheme.

Looks like the cleat's on the other foot, this time through...

Knighton is rated #9 at his position in the NFL and Mebane is ranked #3 at the same position but all I ever hear is about Knighton. Personally, I'm tired of hearing about ham hock.

Just shows how bad their defense is. We have so many top tier guys that it's difficult to focus on just one guy. He's pretty much all they have on D.

This. Pot roast just man handled the best LG in football. There is no way seatle doesn't double team. The big question to me is how is the best Oline in football going to do against a real front seven? The DT position in particular is troubling. We just got done curb stomping NE, but that was against a DT that we traded to seatle for a 5th, and the you guys promptly cut because he wasn't worth the O2 he was using, so... that'll be the match up I am most interested in.

The big thing I saw on the reply was knighton getting depth and backside cut blocks that sucked.

Sorry but Sweazy and Breno are pretty freaking good and washing out those backside blockers. In other words yes he will have a slight impact, I am sure he will get into the backfield and cause penetration.

Like the someone already mentioned it might be in the best interest to leave him unblocked and attack the LB's. San Fran does that really well.

Knighton had a good year.

But anyone would think he was crapping gold the way the media go on about him.

It's going to take more than one decent interior presence to slow down our running game.

Case in point -- on more than one occasion against the Pats they lost contain on the edge. LaGarrette Blount kept running into Knighton for no gain. If we run the read option, they'll have a long day selling up the middle. It could be another week 13 vs the Saints -- where Marshawn gets 45 yards but Wilson gets 60-70 and our offense has a field day.

Dang on one of his sacks that D line lost so much containment. If that happens against us they are in big trouble. They better play more discipline defense than that.

No kidding. Saw it over and over again in the AFCCG....lots and lots of Green Grass in front of Brady. Heck Brady even ran it in for a TD on one occasion. If Brady can do that, you don't want to think about what Wilson or Kaepernick would do to you.....

Knighton is no better than a player our o-line just played against in Saints DT/DE Akiem Hicks. Hicks is 6-5 325 lbs he had more tackles and sacks than Knighton. Also, Knighton is coming off maybe the best game he has ever played against supposedly one of the best OG in Mankins. IMO Mankins is one of the most overrated OG's, yeah he is a good player, but probably not in the top-8 guards in the NFL.

Yeah, I'm excited to watch the match up. No need to call him names. We have plenty of nick names of our own, and when I go to other fan boards it's silly to see the way they mock our guys. Also, Knighton is similar to our guys in that he has a cool "rags to riches" type story. Cool for him to have come so far and that he is having such a profound impact on the game.

Like most Hawk fans I'm confident that we will handle him. We have gone against top 10 defensive lines all year in Carolina, San Fran twice, Rams twice, Arizona twice, even NO has a good front seven and we played them twice.

Also, as was mentioned we have Mebane number 3, McDonald and big Red. Remember all season our 1's go against our 1's all week long in practice. Our O-line has been warring with the number 3 DT all season long. Cool, Knighton is number 9, but that won't be something our team hasn't been handling all year and then some.

Also, as was pointed out when you watch the game tape their was really poor weak side blocking by NE and Brady could have ran for a 100 yards in that game as Denver got great interior pressure with Knighton but were really poor at containing the ends.

Go Hawks!!!
