I don't know how anyone could look at the list of free agent QBs and the draft options and think Darnold is going to have a "soft market". Compared to the others, teams are going to see him as DarnGold.

The guy I'd really like to see us make an inquiry into is Jake Browning. I'm pretty surprised we've heard like nothing about him in the past year. I thought he looked fantastic filling in for Burrow in 2023. The moment was definitely not too big for him and whatever athletic limitations caused him to be considered a fringe prospect going into his draft weren't apparent. I believe he led the league in completion percentage that season and at least in the games I watched, he wasn't just dinking and dunking. I get some Hasselbeck vibes from him.

I know he has tremendous value to the Bengals as a cheap, reliable backup, but they're under suffocating pressure to stop wasting Burrow's prime. At some point, they have to wonder whether it's in their best interest to hold onto a player they hope won't see the field if they can get something that can contribute more in the present. Browning is going into the last year of his contract anyway.
I like the idea of JB or trading the 3rd for Joe Milton.
It could be DK gets traded to NE and Milton is thrown in and we stockpile another pick.

So, my question is what qb out there fits this new offense best? If you look at Kubiak and the Shanahan tree, what type of makeup makes their system click?

Browning is intriguing as he looked really good at times in a bad situation. Not sure if he fits kubiak a system but he could?

I watched Darnold be slowly passed by Mayfield as a Panther in terms of tough decision making. JJ was a shoe in to start over Darnold before his injury and the Jets drafted Wilson to replace Darnold...well the Jets are bad so I will give Darnold a pass on that.

Darnold is an average QB and that is being generous.

Overpaying for an average QB is how teams go into cap hell fast.

Darnold makes a ton of sense. He’s arguably on par with Geno he’s 8 years younger, cheaper apparently and has had more recent success. How did Geno look at 27? He’s also a former #3 pick. IMG 8579

Rumor is market for Darnold has been pretty low. Might get him for half of what Geno will be signing with Vegas.
Darnold showed his colors in the playoffs. Spend the Geno money to upgrade the rest of the roster and draft a QB.

Some Bears fans want to trade the #10 pick in first round.

I've been one of those who downgraded this year's QB draft but have changed my mind due to circumstances. One reason I am so high on Dart is because his greatest strengths are exactly what Kubiaks offense depends on to be successful.
Geno is an upgrade over Darnold. Pete knows that and he also knows Russ is not a viable option. Thing is Geno's strengths are not the best match for our new offensive scheme, at least not as he has exhibited to date. I think Darnold's greatest strengths were the team around him last year as he never showed that well previously.
This is something I do not want us to be revisiting year after year. I'm too old for that! Lets find a QB that we can depend on for several years to play with the upgrades we can now get for our positions of need.

Only reason why I hope we dont sign Darnold is because he will take alot of the cap we just free'd up. It puts us right back in the same place.
From reports NFL insiders are saying is he will cost about $15 million less than what Geno would’ve.

Agreed.

Spend on the money on OL at the very least.

Darnold had an mvp caliber regular season and is 8 years younger than Geno. I can’t see how he’s worse than Geno in any fashion. At worst to me he’s similar to Geno, rumored to be a little cheaper, is younger and guys improve into their 30’s and you can still draft a guy for the future with more money to plug holes.

I totally get just going rookie contract and maybe a vet minimum too and that’s the ultimate lottery so if John has a guy then that’s awesome too

Darnold is a mirage and is only seen as a good option because of the system he was in which is why the Vikings are okay with him walking away if it comes to it.
