Wow, there's actually some hate for Shaun Alexander on this board?

Absolutely crazy.

I like how "Shaun doesn't deserve to have his jersey retired" turned into "we hate Shaun Alexander."

Shaun was a good RB for us for a short period of time. So what? Having his number retired is as crazy as saying Marshawn's should be retired.

I mean, I know the Hawk's haven't had 40 years of insane success, but holy moly people raise your standards.

Exactly, who the hell hates Alexander? Just because some of us think Lynch was a better back, that somehow equates to hating Shaun? Believe it or not, you can like BOTH guys. Mind......blown.

Lynch was a much better RB than Alexander ever was. I could have been the MVP behind that 2005 O line.

Pretty much this. I don't hate Shaun, I will just always argue about his ranking among Seawhawks RB. I will even concede it was possible he was the most talented among them (though I believe that to be Warner and that the OL greatly amplified SA's talent.) But the fact he didn't apply that talent to its fullest unless the goal line was involved (generally) will always knock him below Warner and Lynch for me.

Hate is a strong word but I think a lot of Shaun's legacy is that he left so many yards on the field by running out of bounds or diving before contact. In interviews he justified it as "I'm doing this to prolong" my career but he had such a steep decline it didn't really make a difference.

Retire #37?

Was there a great seahawk that wore #37?

You are not talking about the RB that was afraid of contact right?

The one that got a bunch of yards because he had 2 of the best OL in the league and one of the best EVER blocking for him?

Please tell me you are not trying to compare him to Marshawn?

Or as I like to call him, slightly more talented Chris Warren. Though at least Chris would try to find the sideline instead of going down like an addict in desperate need of a fix.

I guess I should have quoted something when I said "hate in this thread" for Shaun Alexander. Apparently saying a RB who led the league in rushing & scored 28 TD's while being named league MVP is "afraid of contact" is just par for the course here.

This is some seriously ****** up hot take here.

If 37 isn't retired, 24 sure shouldn't be.

Why?
Beast was a Beast.
#37 was a glass pansy.

Yeah, nothing disrespectful in this post that would indicate a level of hate on this board for Shaun Alexander. I guess I was wrong.

Move along, nothing to see here.

Shaun Alexander had the best vision of any back I have ever seen, and deserves praise for that. Anyone who thinks vision isn't important needs to go look up Trent Richardson highlights. Richardson's vision was so bad, he would've made our 2005 line look like our 2017 line.

I am a SA fan all the way, I watched every game he played in. But when he got payed he fell down if a fly came his way. It was obvious and if you disagree you did not see it. #24 never did that...

Disagree. Marshawn Lynch was a better RB than Shaun. Our offensive line was outstanding, and Alexander only gave it his all in the red zone.

All i have is happy thoughts thinking what it would have been had it been #24 running behind that 2k5 line and JJ blocking and beating down the secondary for long breaks.

JJ = WR Joe Jurevicius? So he's not all gone and forgotten here?

I thought he was a huge loss, when we let him go. He was a great blocker downfield and a clutch receiver.

It amazes me how quick some are to turn on some players. I mean I am not an Alexander fan, but my issues were mainly with some of the things he said. As an RB he was great and our only MVP, so far. There are alot if myths about him, he only ran hard inside the 20 was one. He led the league in 1st downs by a back one year, you cant do that and not run hard. He was no were near as physical as lynch, but lynch did not have Alexander's vision. Lynch played in a run first system, Alexander did not.

All that a side Lynch should not have his number retired, for numerous reasons, not the least of which was refusing to get on the bus, his last year here.

Shaun running harder in the red zone was no myth. He played to protect himself most of the time...
