Seahawks hiring Brian Fleury as OC

Al the talk about Fleury being able to unlock the TEs and keep the running game going is great, no going to discount that. But IMO it's just as important if not more that he needs to be able to dial up formations and play calls to unlock JSN the way Kubiak did. The play that comes to mind first is the TD at the end of the first half of the NFCCG with JSN coming out of the backfield.

What an obscene draft. Aside from our starters (Zabel, Emmanwori, Ouzts)...we have two additional potential high impact rookies (Arroyo, Mills) who were essentially redshirted. You could add Milroe to that list if they figure out a way to use him or he's good enough to be the backup. Horton's already flashed so he just needs to get healthy. Cabeldue and Richman are reserve lineman. Ricky White's back on the practice squad.

Since the offense is already installed (and they won a SB with it), I'd think they could use the offseason looking for additional ways to take advantage of their talent and/or play situational offense. Darnold can sit with the coaches all offseason and work it out.

I am generally a fan of the hire. Fleury is one of those guys who clearly has a great mind for the game. Shanahan plucked him out of defensive coaching and made him part of the offensive staff.

This, despite being an outside hire, is probably MORE of a continuity hire than Peetz or Outten would've been. Fleury's offensive coaching background is pretty much all under Shanahan and, recently, Klint's brother Klay as SF's OC.

We're staying with our bread and butter here if Fleury's background is any indication, and I can't imagine he would've been the hire if Benton and some others weren't on board with it.

They wanted the guy they thought would be best able to keep this train on offense moving on the same track it was last year, and Fleury's background is intriguing to me. Some of his interviews are pretty great in terms of detail-orientation.

I like it.

Those who hate analytics aren’t going to be happy with the Fleury and Orr hires.

I don't necessarily hate analytics. I just hate a human who doesn't understand the nuances of how humans operate in battle. A computer can't tell me when/where/how to dropkick someone.

ETA: I'm not saying that Fleury is that type of "analytics" person. Just generalizing.

And oh yeah, Sean Payton's dumb ass should have took the 3 pts.

When it comes to SB margins of victory, the 9ers still hold that from 1990 - a 55-10 crushing of the Broncos.

Seahawks are third for XL's 43-8 (after XX where the Bears beat the Patriots 46-10).

The Broncos and Patriots might have reason to dislike the current NFC West a bit.

So. People can say “lack of play calling experience” but let’s be real that’s what the offseason and preseasons for. Also not a single HC in the league was born with or given play calling experience until a team and someone took a chance on them to get that experience. Lastly I think Coach Mike is confident in this hire. Like he was confident in telling Kubiak to take a shot at the endzone where JSN and CG were on point for an either a TD if same led it better and CG didn’t get the PBU.

In the end I think we’re fine. My only complaint? i hate the amount of inpatient teams who fire coaches. This yr had to be a record on HC and Assistant openings.

I dislike how he still talks like an defensive coach. He said today that offenses don’t have to score a lot of points.

This guy smells like a Matt Patricia character to me, I hope I’m wrong.

The more I'm hearing and reading about him, the more I'm starting to warm up to him, especially hearing how MM was very impressed with him during the interview that he hired him the very next day.

If what I'm hearing/reading is true, the Hawks offense should be a lot more interesting than last year...I'm excited and looking forward to that, considering how many playmakers we actually have on offense right now.

I mean if you grind out the play clock and have stellar defense, 21 points is a lot.
I don’t like that mind set though. I hope he plans on scoring lots of points but knowing he doesn’t need to… I hope that’s what he meant
