Reading stuff like this really makes me feel great for everyone... even all the fans who've passed away that never got to see this amazing evolution. We need to be the first NFL team to honor their deceased fans before the home opener every year, btw.
THAT is an excellent idea.

Finally ESPN puts forward some quality after a ten year hiatus...

This team in the last few years has changed my life severely, in a number of great ways. It might be silly that it's taken a football team for a 26 year old man to get his shiz together, but such is the reality of my life and I'm proud of it.

You are not alone. For me, the reason it feels silly at times is because I never imagined such a sound philosophy and fully incorporated approach to life coming from a sports team. From meditation to Beast Mode and everything in between! The Seahawks have this positive effect on us fans because of Pete's vision to maximize success in life, as well as the players, GM, and owner who have embodied it.

Excellent article.

On the first day of meetings in 2010, Carroll asked players to stand up and choose a new seat, to take a fresh perspective as they started a new season. "One guy in the back of the auditorium didn't switch seats," says Matt Hasselbeck, the Seahawks' starting quarterback that year. "He was a big-money guy, a starter. And he was gone a week later. Pete didn't care about the seats. He just wants to know who's with him."

Boom, later.

08/18/2010 Traded DE Lawrence Jackson to Detroit for a 2011 undisclosed draft choice.
08/31/2010 Traded CB Josh Wilson to Baltimore

??? Hhhhmmmm

Housh was defended by PC/JS as having "bought in" shortly after being cut. Lendale White, Lawrence Jackson, maybe, but they'd have been familiar with it from their USC days. Probably Deon Grant.

I think it was Deon Grant, because that guy was out of here with the quickness, Housh it took to the end of preseason, and this situation sounded like it was early on in that first preseason.

I love that this organization is rebuilding the wheel, its beautiful, and most of these teams that we talk about as dynasties of the past always had something different about them, we're totally on the cusp of this I think.

Salute to you Pete & John.

Lendale wasn't there long enough to be a big-money starter and he wasn't there right away either. LoJack was excited about Pete coming; he didn't get ticked off until he was traded. If PC wasn't just being diplomatic about Housh, then that would seem to eliminate him.

Grant is looking more likely.

Who was the player who didn't change seats?

My guess is Deon Grant.
Hass said that it was a "big money" starter. Grant wasn't making that much, was he? Probably Housh.

Grant was one of the highest-paid safeties in the league while he was here.

And if the report is to be believed, it said that this took place during the first meetings of the season, which probably happened in March (soon after Caroll was hired) before the first minicamps before the draft. Grant was released in March (which would fit the one week later timetable).

All other big money starters, like Housh, were released in roster cutdowns. The report specifically says it was on the first day of meetings, and then the release was a week later.

The only other "big names" who were ejected around that time were Seneca Wallace (not a starter) and Darryl Tapp (not making big money...rookie contract). Both through trades.

It was Grant.

I'm sure it was intended spoof of the graphic from when Bill Simmons picked us to win it all last year http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/834 ... cks-league

Thanks for linking that article. I remember reading that last year and hoping he was right, and now it looks like Bill Simmons had a crystal ball with a fresh tune-up in regards to what he wrote about Wilson.

It really doesn't matter who the ex-player was, but the message does. My thinking is it was Housh. Can't ever see Pete allowing himself to be publicly ignored by any player.

No player is bigger than the team and the rules of the team are critically important to allowing a new direction to happen.

Really liked this article, thanks for posting it!

Article specifically says on the first day of meetings in 2010 this happened. Housh was released at the end of preseason.

He's the one guy who is SEEMS like it would be, but it wasn't him.

But you're right, still a strong message regardless of who it was.

Great article. I like the fact the hawks are the team that can be the example. The quote from Matt Flynn was interesting, and not surprising considering he didn't win the starting job. I also loved the point of turning off the heat to see who, if anyone, would complain. Man, great read.

When I first read that, I thought he was talking about Carroll, but he's talking about himself. Guess he just didn't vibe here.
