GREAT article. As someone who understands how mental illness is untreated, undetected, and misunderstood in our society, I am so proud of our organization for working to assist the mental health of its players.

I also appreciate how this approach has positively affected the coaching; see Cable's comments on yelling at players because that was how he was coached until he got here.

Pete Carroll is fantastic. I just love this guy, and it annoys me that people give him crap because Reggie Bush's family wanted a house. He seems to genuinely care about not only his players, but the people in his community (like when he would go hang out with gang members while at USC).

That article shows how thoroughly amazing this organization is (and every hater who talks about Pete the cheat should have to read it, then explain in 1000 words why they're full of crap).

It also helps explain why Seattle is now a destination.

damn straight! The NCAA can kiss my rosy red... All that BS about something Reggie Bush did and they ignored "A Better LA" and all the other great things Pete has done.

I love the marriage of Pete Carroll, John Schneider and the Seahawks.

Yep. If Reggie would simply come out and admit he screwed up and say he's sorry, I could probably forgive him. But so far he hasn't deigned to do so. Jerk. And it sucks because I can no longer fully enjoy the memories of what those guys did because i'ts tarnished by his actions.

Just a lot of people who are jealous of PC because of his dominance in College. They call him a cheater etc. to justify the fact that he owned just about everyone he played against. And I'm a huge UW fan, and always hated USC. But, a team that has 17 National Titles, hard to argue with how incredible they have been.

Terrific article. Proud to support these guys.

I know Paul Allen has funded brain research in trying to better understand how the most important organ in the body functions: http://www.alleninstitute.org. I wonder if he influenced Carroll on this front or if there was just a shared philosophy?

I'm sure in the hard-nosed, alpha-male environment of pro-sports this stuff is discredited as too touchy-feely, but you have to wonder why guys like Jeremy Stevens and Koren Robinson, with all the physical ability in the world, fail; while at the same time guys like Largent, with average athleticism, succeed. The primary difference is their psychology. Many star athletes are raised in the most appalling cultural environments which predisposes them to self-destructive behavior. Addressing their issues and teaching them how to make positive choices seems logical and necessary.

My favorite quote was from Okung: "Meditation is as important as lifting weights and being out here on the field for practice," Okung says. "It's about quieting your mind and getting into certain states where everything outside of you doesn't matter in that moment. There are so many things telling you that you can't do something, but you take those thoughts captive, take power over them and change them." #AlwaysCompete !!!

Reggie is an ass hat, but I don't see why that should tarnish your memories at all. It's not like anything that anyone did was ACTUALLY illegal or that SC ACTUALLY cheated, it broke some silly antiquated NC double Asshole rules that nobody ACTUALLY cares about anyway. I don't think twice about any of the stupid asterisks those stuffy old farts put next to his name in the record books.

But yeah... Screw Reggie Bush.

Finally ESPN puts forward some quality after a ten year hiatus...

This team in the last few years has changed my life severely, in a number of great ways. It might be silly that it's taken a football team for a 26 year old man to get his shiz together, but such is the reality of my life and I'm proud of it. Reading stuff like this really makes me feel great for everyone that's been involved in this whole thing from the players down to the fans, chefs (love that Golden mentioned them the other day in his sideline interview), and even all the fans who've passed away that never got to see this amazing evolution. We need to be the first NFL team to honor their deceased fans before the home opener every year, btw.

Anyways, thanks for the find. Excellent stuff, GO Hawks!

Had to be Housh.

One of the best articles I've ever read. So happy to be a fan of this team.

Yeah, doesn't really sound like something Deon would do.

Who was the player who didn't change seats?

My guess is Deon Grant.

My initial thought was Houshmanzadeh, but yours fits, too.

Yours is probably a better guess. I just looked at the 2010 transactions and looked for an early "big name" cut, and Grant jumped out at me.

Had to be the Houshbag. My God what a failure that was. Amazingly, it's almost as if that entire "mini-era" in Seahawks history was wiped from my mind like something straight out of Men in Black. I saw it with my own eyes and know that it happened, and that it was terrible and that Jim Mora Jr was terrible, but it simply matters none to me at the moment.

Thank God it was quick though.

Terrific article. I don't typically save anything from this site. But, that article is an exception. Thanks for posting. :th2thumbs:
