Darnold isn't under contract beyond this season. He's playing on a 1 year contract right now. Not sure what JS would be calling the Vikings to ask about. You mean JJ?

Call about both of them. Is he staying or not, is he signing an extension or getting tagged, or are they letting him test FA? All valid questions to ask as a GM. IF they are thinking Darnold long term, which they really should, then McCarthy likely becomes available.

Very much. I suspect plenty of teams will be calling the Vikes, just like the Hawks should, imo.

Sam was relatively inexperienced coming into the NFL. He only played QB a little over a year in HS due to an injury, and he started just under two years at SC. And he didn’t exactly play for a great head coach (Helton) while at USC.

I don’t know whether this year is an outlier for Sam or if it’s the start of a multi-year trend of good play. I’m hoping for his sake it’s the latter.

Vikes have Brett Rypien, Nick Mullins and Daniel Jones (practice squad) all on the roster in addition to Sam Darnold and JJ McCarthy. They could get trade value from 1 or more and still have a good backup and starter. It also helps re-sign their preference/s if they have several comfortable backups ready to step in. It will be really interesting to see how that all shakes out and could really alter how teams manage the QB room. Maybe 1 young up-and-comer as backup evolves into a QB room of 4 that allows for continuous turnover and improvement both during the season and off season. Something is working there....
