Don't know much about Aflac, but Alaska Airlines and Levis are good companies. Looks as though he chooses sponsors he can represent with a clear conscience.

Nike got him before he was drafted. He is also involved with Gatorade, Verizon and who knows.

Thank god he is going to get paid somewhere. The new CBA screws the rookies 'fer sure. A kid like him deserves every penny.

What kind of a fantasy world is this where getting paid a half of a million dollars is 'getting screwed'?

The kind of world where that person is one of the 5-10 most valuable people in a multi-billion dollar industry.

To add to that, he's being paid a fraction of what similarly talented people in his occupation are being paid. We're not comparing it to WalMart wage, we're comparing it to like positions in the same industry. Whether one agrees with the pay scale or not, fair comparative value is still a factor.

And it is good to see him getting these deals. If for no other reason than it compensates him a little more fairly, while at the same time relieving the team of the burden of a huge salary for him. Time will come where he'll be paid hugely. Until then, it's good he's getting this extra compensation on the side.

Entry level/first-year positions get paid less in every field.

Russell has been drooling on Alaska Airlines everytime he travels (on Twitter)...now I know why.

I don't use Twitter at all so I am curious: was his "drooling" a recent thing, or has it been going on awhile? I can totally see him only signing endorsement deals with companies that he actually respects and trusts (his wife used to work for American Family for instance). Could it be that he does love the airline so much that he only explored an endorsement option after the fact?

Anyone else I would doubt that they have such a high degree of integrity that they only endorse what they believe in. Anyone else I would expect a cash grab and a hollow endorsement. But RW might just have that much integrity and honesty.

Wilson did get paid an extra 222K from the players association; in the new CBA, there's money pooled and set aside for rookies that exceed playing expectations.

As good as RW was and may continue to be, he's only a player. He's far less valuable than many of the owners, general managers, head coaches, and those who have most greatly assisted in innovating the NFL into a cultural phenomenon (the late Steve Sabol comes to mind). This multi-billion dollar industry wasn't built on the athletic and mental talent of its players (every sport has people who fit this bill but it doesn't help them compete with the NFL), it was more so built by the business people, the innovators, and their good fortune in successfully marketing the sport in its earlier years and not screwing it up while they've been on top. Even within the context of the ridiculous profits in the NFL, RW's current paycheck is hardly a snub to his value and half a million dollars will never be the monetary value that precedes "getting screwed".

If his rookie year was entry level, then what would you consider all the games he played in college to be? If first-year employees get paid less than their coworkers by default, why is he continuing to make so "little" in upcoming seasons where he will no longer be a first-year player?

I would consider it to be amateur, just like any other non-professional sports league. You could argue that college players should get paid, or at least be allowed to receive fringe benefits (I would agree with that), but I don't think it has any bearing on the NFL CBA.

And Wilson is going to get paid more in his second year than he did in his first year. He will get paid more on his second contract than on his first. Seems reasonable to me.

You don't get what you deserve. You get what you negotiate.

True in the NFL. True in life.
