I came across this video and it might be the most “real” I’ve seen Russ act. Oh sure there are still recognizable “Russisms” but for the most part it feels like Russ without the plastic, uber-rehearsed press conference babble.

I've said it before but I'll say it again. I girl I grew up with worked as a trainer for the Seahawks (and still does). She said Russ is easily the nicest and most down to earth athlete she's ever been around. He would spend time with literally everyone at the facility regardless of what job they did. She has all kinds of stories of Russ doing cool things for people that we never see. She also said most players loved Russ and it was a very small minority who didn't and they were jerks and shitty and it always drove her nuts how he is portrayed in the media and among other fans. You can believe it or not, doesn't matter to me but I always share it because I think its fair to.

edit to add: I also understand some of the criticism towards Russ, He at times hasn't done himself any favors, says goofy stuff sometimes etc. I get it. I do think people saying he's a sh*^% human or selfish or wasn't a good teammate etc is unwarranted.

I will forever believe this... he was at the epicenter of what destroyed the team that we all love. We finally get to the pinnacle... and the team implodes due, in part, to Me3.

And for that, he is persona non grata to me.

For all of his media savvy, Wilson's magic didn't work in Denver or Pittsburgh. Here in Seattle, the love is still strong, even among folks who openly didn't want Wilson back. Wilson occupies a place deep inside some 12s' heart.

Never forget - The franchices best QB ever was Satan.

It will always blow my mind that he is so hated by such a large group of fans.
Its goofy. The dude played hurt, never complained, never gave up and played hard even if they were down 30 at half like the Carolina game and was a warrior. I get people being mad at the ending even if I see it differently but what gets me is the revisionist history where they claim he wasn't great or didnt play his ass off for a decade. Those dudes come off as angy ex-girlfriends and it looks silly on their part. You can actively root he's terrible since he left, I totally get it....but dont tell me he wasn't a monster in his prime.

I won't change your mind but I've heard multiple players who I trust more than Sherman and Baldwin who see it differently as well as people close to the team but people are free to believe what they want as none of us have the full picture. I think Russ definitely deserves some of the blame but it wasn't all him.

Russell got us there and he was a blast to watch. But Pete was a huge part of making him successful, and Denver is where quarterbacks go to die (except Elway and Peyton). As far as whether or not he was a decent human being - we've all known guys like him in real life. We like them, right? The plastic artificial stuff is irritating, but it's okay in our friends as long as they're genuinely nice guys, and I think Russ was. I'm giving him a break in that regard, but I get that he's irritating to a lot of Seahawks fans.

Here's a quick breakdown to jog your memory:

ReasonDescription
On-field frustrationHolds ball too long, takes sacks, misses open receivers, Super Bowl XLIX interception
Locker room divisionPerceived favoritism, coddling from coaches, lack of connection with teammates, public criticism from ex-teammates
Off-field dramaLeaked stories about management, push for coach/GM firing, pushing for trade request privately, while lying to fans publicly about wanting to stay (two-faced)
Personality/perception"Corny" persona, focus on branding, seen as inauthentic or robotic
Ego and brand focusprioritizing personal brand and accolades over team goals, personal charity organization funding salaries instead of actual charitable work

For me, the cardinal sin was putting himself above the team. Trying to win MVP by playing hero ball instead of doing what was best for the team (such as hitting the open check down, or rushing for the first down). This was after the FO made him the highest paid QB at the time, too. Got the big contract, but failed to deliver.

Hass on the other hand, clearly not the best franchise QB, but far more likeable.

I found it interesting that he still doesn't take any responsibility for the SB loss. His language: " we did not win", "play didn't work", "play didn't go our way", and then right back to self-glorification.

I respect what he does in the community, but it just doesn't jibe with the whole, "God chose me for this, and f' everyone else" attitude.

Better gas up the Waaaaaaahmbulance, here come the x girlfriends. You haven't heard ONE guy on that defense acknowledge giving up a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter, not one. But somehow, it's only RUSS who is in denial. You guys crack me up. The gift that keeps on giving, several years later. It's a blast reading all the hurt feels about the guy.

Good stuff - thanks for posting. A lot of the Russell-bashing leaves me scratching my head. I've got complaints about a lot of the Seahawks Super Bowl Champion players and their attitudes during the decline, but Russell - not so much.

Don't bother Runs, he is the anti-christ on this page, and it's the gift that keeps on giving. Next level hilarious.
Trust me on this, it's NOT worth the effort. Not even sort of.

Seattle media people take after Seattle citizens. A bunch of passive-aggresses wusses who can't confront, ask hard questions, or do the hard thing, by and large. It's no surprise his typical act is ignored in other markets.

When I advocated to sign Wilson for last season, when he was available for $ 1 mil a season, lo, let's say that my opinion was very unpopular :)

Not a crazy idea, but I think it was Pete's system that made Russell successful. I'm still not understanding MacDonald's offensive plans. Hopeful though.

I don't need to understand, I am here to cheer and praise.
