They should take Kam's game checks and divide it up amongst the 22 starters.

It also should be pointed out that contracts (AGAIN) that contracts are one way. Everyone freaks out when a player does not honor a contract, but when they do what they did to Zach Miller, nobody bats an eye. I didn't hear "But he has a contract!!" from all the Seahawk fans that were aghast when the Seahawks forced Miller to take a pay reduction, because of performance #s he did not hit primarily because we forced him to stay in and block instead of catch the ball.

No they are not.

Contracts are contracts. Regardless of what each side gets or how even its distributed. A team cant force a player to restructure. They can say they will cut them and that might persuade the player. But they cant force them. And if they cut them, they still have to honor the contract. If the contract states that a player is owed so much money in a given year, regardless if hes on the team or not, they still have to pay that out. If it doesnt state that, THEN THE PLAYER ALREADY KNEW THIS.

Thats the point right there, the player knows the years that arent guaranteed. He already knows his incentives and bonuses, because its all, right there, in the contract. So when a player signs the contract, he knows full well what he will get no matter what. What he will get if hes still with the team. What bonuses he'll get. What incentives are. Hes knows all of this. The team doesnt get to choose to stop honoring the contract. The team gets to honor OPTIONS in the contract that both sides agreed too. And that may mean, the ability to cut a player and not have to pay a certain amount.

End.

And Chancellor knows he can honour the OPTIONS in his contract to not turn up and pay fines as a result. Then he can turn up for the last 6 games and accrue a year. In that respect he's honouring his contract right?

The bold part is technically incorrect, as Kam did received a bump in his 2013 base salary when he signed the new deal. His 2013 salary was not simply his original 2013 base + his signing bonus. Now i don't consider this "tearing up" his old deal, but i think it is a sticking point in Scientist's view.

That isn't how the NFL, or people who follow the salary cap view it.

thus

Contract: 4 yr(s) / $28,002,008 Signing Bonus$5,000,000 Average Salary $7,000,50 Free Agent:2018 / UFA

So that additional 1.5 million bump in his 2013 base salary was not part of his first contract and not part of his second contract so which contract was it part of?

Kam is being fined 250,000 right now for breech of contract. He has the RIGHT to hold out. But its not an option in the contract, and therefor, he is incurring fines and losing out on the money the contract would pay out to him. Pretty simple.

Holding out isnt an option in the contract.

I dont quite understand why you are fighting everyone on his contract. Its not open for interpretation. Its math.

If he holds out and only comes back at week ten then the Hawks need to take off the gloves and start demanding the fine money and the portion of his signing bonus we can collect.

If he screws our season then the gloves come off

I don't think I'd even want him on field week one, even if he caved in.
This dude must have lost SO much sleep over this. Nobody knows his shape...
He knew his future is in serious jeopardy and be staring at the ceiling every night.
He's gonna miss his boys Earl and Sherm, them checks gonna really put the hurt on him too.
This year wasn't the one to do it, come back Kam !

He could come back right now and save face by saying he's coming back for the fans and his teammates. I don't believe for a minute that he's going to be embarrassed.
LOL, I love this guy, BUT truth is?, I don't think he gives two shits about the fans.
Trading him would probably be giving him his second desired choice...More Money, albeit with a different set of Brothers.
I would tell him that he plays for the Seahawks or he plays for no one.
It's his money that is there for the taking ,and all he has to do is honor his still wet ink Signature.

He might not care about the fans, but Tech is right, this would be his only save-face option. Claim he doesnt want to hurt the team or the fans, hope for some sympathy. Get back to work, and let it all wash away.
You're probably right, though Pride can be a SOB to get back in the muzzle once it's been fired off.
Hopefully he's starting to hear the cha-ching of his money going down the drain.
I also believe that Schneider would be a fool to even consider trading him away, because that would be an avenue that could be opened up for anyone else that's unhappy with their negotiated contracts.

Logic says he returns soon. That is if he still wants to play the game. It's possible he has decided he no longer loves the game enough to risk injury, and the contract dispute is just a pretense for early retirement.

So that additional 1.5 million bump in his 2013 base salary was not part of his first contract and not part of his second contract so which contract was it part of?

Example: Russell Wilson
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/russell-wilson/
Contract: 4 yr(s) / $87,600,000 Signing Bonus $31,000,000 Average Salary$21,900,000

-->Notice how RW via spotrac shows 4yr(s) on his contract even though he has 5 remaining. This is called an extension.<--

Russell this year signed a 21.9 APY 4 year extension that starts in 2016, but the team spreads some of that hit out this year (the last of his rookie deal 2015). Allowing for lower cap hits throughout the extension.

2015 - 7.05
2016 - 18.54
2017 - 18.8
2018 - 21.7
2019 - 23.2

Average Per Year (APY) 5 years @ 17.85 APY. Win for the player he doesn't have to wait a year for his money. Win for the organization lower cap hits.

The same happened for Kam Chancellor
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/kam-chancellor/
Contract: 4 yr(s) / $28,002,008 Signing Bonus $5,000,000 Average Salary$7,000,502

Kam in 2013 signed a 7 APY 4 year extension that started in 2014, but the team spread some of that hit out over the last year of his rookie deal 2013. Allowing for lower cap hits throughout the extension.

2013 - 3.88
2014 - 5.83
2015 - 5.65
2016 - 6.1
2017 - 8.13

APY 5 years @ 5.91 APY. Win for the player he doesn't have to wait a year for his money. Win for the organization lower cap hits.

Really? Well, you must have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night then.

At this point I'm of the mind that Chancellor has got to have taken issue with something that was said by someone, somewhere. Could have been the locker room or the meeting room, but a coach or player must have overheard or been privy to something that got back to him. He didn't like it.

I know I'm speculating, but I can't help feeling that way. The speak-softly, carry of big stick types tend to do a lot of listening and things get pent up. A grudge is a plausible scenario the more I think about it.
