Flynn is one of the top backups in the game, and he knows our team and our offense. The backup market has been picked clean. Name me 3 guys available as free agents right now you'd rather have than Flynn. Please be specific.

Tyler Thigpen
Troy Smith
Vince Young
Colt McCoy

All three have starting experience and fit our offense better than Flynn.

I wouldn't want any of them on my team except McCoy. The Tyler and Vince have been given opportunities on good teams and failed. Colt McCoy did fairly well on a horrible team against Cinci, Pittsburr and Baltimore. None of those other 3 played against those kinds of dominant defenses.

Thigpen in 11 starts in KC had 6 fumbles, 12 INTs and a 54.8% completion rate.

As I said in a previous thread, I'd take Seneca back as back-up. People ignored that. Perhaps that says it all about what other people think of Seneca.

Baldwin tweet

@DougBaldwinJr: Wishing Flynn the best on his endeavors in Oakland. Sad to see a friend leave, but excited for his opportunity. Great QB, even better man.
I just saw that it was a done deal also, (Fansidedaily) although there wasn't any info on the terms of the trade with Oakland Raiders.
I will still hold my belief that nothing has been done, until I hear it from a more legitimate source.

I'm not ready to call McCoy toast quite yet. He's not going to wow with his arm or athleticism, but neither will Flynn (IMO, they're actually the same person), but he's been okay. Okay on some clueless teams.

I would actually really like getting McCoy here as a backup. I think he has some nice skills that would fit in with this offense. He can be coached up and he would be in a situation to succeed with this defense, running game and receivers.

Not exactly a stellar list of options, either.

No, but I think they are better for US than Dlynn at this point.

You guys trying to talk yourselves into McCoy...you did watch him play in Cleveland, right?

Just checking.

Yes we did Boss :D he played 3 of the better defenses in the NFL 6 times a year with...uhh...well somebody at RB and WR but for the life of me I can't remember who.

I do agree Senneca would be worth checking also. I expect a rookie and a vet in camp
The most likely trade I see is swap 3s. I can't remember where I heard it but makes sense

Wouldn't sweat so much on who are back-up is. Personally, i like McCoy. As a backup.

We have enough talent to dump the ball off in a worst case scenario.

Debatable. At least Flynn knows Bevell's offense.

I really don't think it matters anyways, because if Wilson got hurt our offense would look a lot different no matter who the back-up is. Wilson is too unique.

NFL.com has already removed their link to the talk of Flynn's trade being "imminent". Looks like reporters are just as bad as guys on MB's who race to post a BREAKING NEWS thread without verification from credible sources.

I for one don't dissagree with bringing Seneca in for the competition, I just don't know that he has the wheels to be a contender as a backup any more.
I know he was athletic as hell while he was with the Seahawks, and could also run great routes, jump higher than hell, but was never given serious consideration for anything more that a backup for Hass, but I believe that was more because of Holmgren's influence and belief that Hasselbeck was running the WCO the way Holmgren wanted him to do, and honestly?, it's hard to argue with how successful the Seahawks were with it.

Anyone outside the top 7 or so QB's on the NFL couldn't have done too much better. Very tough circumstances for Colt. Zero talent to work with, poor coaching, playing against Ravens, Lebeau and Marvin 6 times a year.

Yeah, I've heard all the McCoy apologists explain it. Just color me unimpressed.

But like I said earlier, it doesn't really matter. Our offense would be totally different without Wilson anyways, no matter who the back-up. Wilson is way too unique to replicate.
