MLB Network:

The Seattle Mariners announced Friday that they will shut down Root Sports Northwest at the end of the 2025 season, shifting all aspects of broadcast production, carriage, and streaming of Mariners games to Major League Baseball beginning in 2026.

I have had the MLB network this past season it was $150 for the entire season I just don’t get my local games ( Orioles and Nationals) which I can get on my local RSN which is MASN for $20 a month which isn’t very much cheaper than the MLB Network

I'm getting Fubo, which has/had Root Sports and has MLB/MLB Strike Zone in the same package I'm getting now, which includes NFL Red Zone, ESPN, etc.

We've gone down this path before in other threads. Sure, it's more complicated. But the dilution of the streaming market isn't costing us any more in the long run than the extremely expensive cable or satellite providers we used to have to get our sports fixes from when you consider that you can share a subscription if you pay the extra bucks for a family package. With my Fubo subscription, I can have up to 10 screens active at once, so I'm sharing my subscription with my brother and daughter.

Disclaimer: I am not a salesman for Fubo.
After your earlier input of Fubo I went with them at the end of August for the football season after going from YTTV I think I like Fubo better and Fubo does include my RSN I do have cheaper $80 ish package. When I was with YTTV I would cancel the service after the Superbowl with Fubo I think I will keep it on

Yes. But in today’s world the internet is a staple that the vast majority of people already have

Right, but if you're comparing Comcast Xfinity to Fubo, you kind of have to account for the fact that the Comcast service includes Internet service, but with Fubo you need to pay for Internet service + Fubo.

To put that another way, if I wanted to dump Comcast and switch to Fubo, I'm going to have to pay for Internet service from a different ISP + pay for Fubo.

I pay $120 for Starlink and once my introductory period id over with Fubo it will be $85. I just wanted the cheapest package that would also give me my local RSN

That's basically what we're paying for Xfinity, which includes Internet service, and as I said in an earlier post all the sports networks that I'm aware of plus all the movie channels like Paramount+ with Showtime, HBO Max, MGM+, Starz, the movie channel, Flix, etc., and all of that content is available on demand.

I don't know man. I keep hearing how streaming services are so much cheaper than cable, but every time someone is willing to actually break down what they're paying for TV and Internet, it's always very similar to Xfinity, and often times it turns out we're getting a lot more content.

But you also need to pay for Internet service as well, yeah?
That's correct. I'm paying around $80/month for Charter Spectrum as my ISP.

My Charter Spectrum bill when I had them as both my ISP and my TV provider was pushing close to $200/month for the package that included the Red Zone, so going with Fubo and maintaining Charter as my ISP was about a push cost wise.

However, when you consider that you can share your subscription with others means that you can split the costs in half or, in my case, by three. Plus, Fubo gives you unlimited DVR storage, something that Charter didn't offer. And there's no equipment, no dish or receiver, and if you have a smart TV like I do, no separate remote control to worry about.

I was an Amazon Prime Video member long before they started televising NFL games, so the TNF thing was a freebie for me. There are times when I have to sign up for a month's worth of Netflix for something like $6-$8, so I can watch the Xmas day games, but I figure that it's less than the price of a pitcher of beer, so what the heck. I'm not going to whine around complaining about something that trivial. Too many other things in life for me to bitch about.

When streaming first became a thing it was cheaper I remember YTTV being around $50 a month but that didn’t last long. Since I would have internet service no matter if I was streaming or using another tv source I don’t include that in the price. Before I started streaming I had Direct tv that I was starting to sour on because they were raising their prices than lost the NFL Ticket contract I was going to keep Direct tv just long enough to finish the contract commitment. I than had a lightning strike that hit on my property that came in through the Direct tv dish and took out the receiver and everything that I was hooked up via HDMI including the tv ( one of the boards needed to be replaced and it was back to work). Directv was going to replace the receiver but that would have been another 2 yr commitment so I made the switch. Lightning strikes are not uncommon in my area

You get it free on t-mobile plans every year on top of netflix, apple TV, mls pass, Hulu.

If you are paying for those streaming services already then a t-mobile plan wouldn't be that expensive.

I just never use mlb as the Mariners weren't on it due to blackouts but if they are thats a game changer.

I wonder if the Mariners will work out a deal with Amazon for all non-national games? Similar to the Kraken

Listening to Salk this morning, he said the M's game will still be playing on Root. The rest of the time, Root is dark. So, for those who have root and watch the games, nothing changes. But Jen Meuller is moving on after 19 years.

That makes sense cause I have tried to watch root sports when it was not a baseball game and it’s rough. Except a show about baseball cards I liked, but me and the guy who made it were prolly the only ones watching

Can't wait 'til we have to start tuning into Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network to catch Mariner games...
